A hot week in PA!!

Monday 20 July 2020

Made it to
Ives Run.
Still hot it was 84 degrees when we were ready to leave at 10 am.  Diane went over to Lynn's to get our mail and I headed up the highway.  I pulled into the old Angie's diner and made some lunch until she arrived.  We had lunch, hooked up the truck and headed north.  We stopped in Blossburg for fuel and decided to unhook there, that way Diane could shop for fresh corn on her way to Ives Run.  We rolled in around 4pm or so and were still hooking up when Jen and Greg stopped by.  We chatted for awhile said hello and such then finished hooking up.  The usual travel day burgers on the grill.

Tuesday 21 July 2020

Diane had a hair cut appointment so she dropped me off at rail to trail.  I rode my normal ride and meet her back at the trailhead.  It was after lunch so we both ordered subs from Pag Omar's.  The mayo or something must have been going bad because we were a little nauseated.  In their defense it was hot and could have been from the heat.

Wednesday 22 July 2020

The heat continues.  We did a two mile walk around the campground this morning trying to take advantage of the lower morning temperature. Scrapple and eggs for breakfast cooked on the grill but we have been eating inside(to hot even at breakfast time)  We headed to Lowes for a battery powered weed whacker and ended up with just a pack of batteries.  We did find a antique store we hadn't been in yet so we stopped.  I couldn't believe it we found a few items we needed.  Took a slow walk around the park with Rudy and just had salad with grilled chicken on it.

Thursday 23July 2020

Dr's appointment for me, covid test for Diane.  She dropped me off at the Dr's office at 9:30 then drove to Corning Hospital for a covid test.  She says it was terrible.  The swab went in her left nostril and out her right ear, or so it felt.  I went for breakfast and the drug store for prescriptions and just  walked out the drug store when she pulled in.  Back home it was after lunch pretty much shot the whole day.  Grilled chicken and broccoli

Friday 24 July 2020

Big birthday today.  Diane turned 59 again.  As she requested cooked breakfast bacon and eggs.   Next we went to Wellsboro and had pizza for lunch at Tony's(her favorite).  Then we walked around town checked out quite a few stores before ice cream time.  She had a dish of homemade mint chocolate chip from the Creamery.  The only thing we found to buy was a new dress for her and the dominos game, Mexican train .   Back home steak, baked tater and mushrooms were in order for the birthday girl with a glass or two of wine.

Saturday 25 July 2020

Still awfully warm.  We went to a new section(for us) of the rail to trail. It was shaded almost the whole way.  We parked and I headed out for the normal 8 mile mark.  It was a beautiful ride in the shade along Pine Creek the whole way and quite busy both on the trail and in the creek. I passed a sign for the Tiadaghton camping area just ahead, so I went to check it out.  It was nice nothing special really.  But as I started back I noticed a mile marker and I was a mile farther than I wanted to go and up hill the whole way back.  I was 20 minutes longer than normal and Diane was getting worried by the time I returned.  No cell service along the trail.  It was still a good day she got her ride and walk in and managed to chat with a few riders as well.  Back to camp cleaned up and over to Jen and Greg's for diner.  A really nice evening the temperature dropped a little and their site is nicely shaded.  We sat outside chatted a while, had diner and then sat by the fire until almost dark.  A doe and baby walked out of the woods to feed just before we left.

This is interesting.  The thing on the left is a platform that you load you stuff on and  pull it over to the camp on the right side of the creek.

Sunday 26 July 2020

Breakfast on the grill and again we decided on a campground walk instead to a bike ride.  Just to hot.  We rested then headed up to Little Marsh via the back way to check out several properties that are for sale and a boat that Greg might be interested in getting.  And some how we ended up just a few miles from the VFW so we stopped for a beer and talked to the bartender Charlie.  It is really sad how the whole covid thing really hurts the small places.  However they did get a hot dog machine so they can "serve food" and stay open when the kitchen is closed.  Back home some wine and sausages on the grill.
