MERRY CHRISTMAS
Well here it is Christmas morning and all our pre-planning has paid off we were up packed and ready to roll by 8:30. Can't wait to hit the almost empty highway this morning. I started the engine and went outside to unhook the electric while Diane brought in the slides. I came back around went inside and then it hit me I didn't have to wait for the steps to come out. I doubled checked and sure enough the steps are stuck in the out position. Well, just oh crap, poop, and darn. We are ready to go and can't. We shut off the engine while I try several ways to bring in the steps with no luck. I had to crawl under the Moho (23 degrees) and unbolt the steps and tie them up. You know how cold wrenches and tools are at 23 degrees well really cold. We finally got everything fixed and cleaned-up and ready to roll by 9:30.
It was still a good ride to Carolina Cross Roads in North Carolina. A sunny nice day almost no traffic. We sailed down route 15 and through the DC beltway with ease. The toughest part was remembering you had no steps when we got out at the rest area and of course we had to pick up Rudy to put him back in. We rolled into the campground at 3pm having traveled 289 miles in 5 1/2 hours. We are still checking but that may be a new record for us.
Dinner on the grill(burgers) several walks for Rudy as he adjusts to the 60 degree weather.

41 degrees when we got up this morning and that felt good. We only had the electric hooked so we were on the road by 9:00. Another nice day for traveling, sunny and warming up nicely as we travel
down the road. The steps are still tied up so getting in and out is still a job. Diane came up with the idea of using our little stool and them fishing it up with the awning hook. It works but we get a lot of strange looks at the rest areas. The traffic picked up steadily as the miles past it wasn't stop and go but the road was full.
We pulled into the South of the Border (SOB) campground at 2pm after a nice drive 172 miles in 5 hours. We stopped at every rest area and had a nice lunch at one of the rest areas, stopped for fuel and propane, our tank was below a 1/4 full and I was getting nervous. It was 63 degrees when we parked had to put shorts on to hook up the utilities and walk Rudy. Deer steak sandwiches for dinner then a stroll through Pedro Land never seen so much tourist junk in all my life. Back to the Moho and called it a night.

I guess we are getting used to leaving early. We were on the road by 8:45 and yea, that is AM. Our
arrival time according to Mr. Google was 11:15. But he apparently did not get the memo about traffic and accidents. I'll try to keep it to the short version. We hit heavy traffic shortly after getting on I95 and I mean stop, then go 65 mph then stop. We stopped at a rest area for a break and there was another guy tying up his steps, as least we didn't have to do it along I95. The rest area was full as well, we got the last spot for RV's people driving the wrong way in parking lot looking for a spot, it was very congested. After that we get back on I95 only to crawl along at 15-20mph. By lunch time we couldn't take it any more got off I95 to have lunch at a Pilot (Denny's) and then took route 17(the back way). That wasn't much better, apparently we weren't the only people with Mr. Google for GPS. Every intersection was backed up a mile. Remember Mr. Google predicted we would arrive at 11:15 well he was WRONG. It was after 3pm when we parked 6 plus hours to go 176 averaging 29 mph.
It was good to be parked and were are here for 9 nights. This is a thousand trails campground so it is included with our membership(almost free). Other campers kept pulling in, well after dark the last one we noticed was 9pm. We are glad we only scheduled 176 miles for the day. You could just look at the late arrivals and know they were tired and frustrated and now they have to set up in the dark.
We enjoyed our warm 71 degree evening sitting outside and doing chicken on the grill and chatting with other campers. And it was great knowing we are not travelling tomorrow.
