Hot, Cold, Hot again!!

Tuesday  June 29 2021

I know we are a little late with last weeks update but it wasn't our fault.  Apparently as the stars aligned last week they sucked our Wifi service right out of the sky.  Good news we seem to be back on-line at least for now.
So we had our first visitors(family) for three days.  Mike and Karen were here and we a great time didn't do anything but eat and sit around the camp fire.  The first night was warm so we all sat around the fire at a distance.  Second day was cool we sat close to the fire with sweat shirts on.  We had just one rain shower go by and lucky Mike got to stand outside and cook the whole time.  He was wet but the food(shrimp boil) was very good.  By the time we had our fill the rain let up and we sat out by the fire. Tuesday Diane took Karen along into town(Elkland)and drove around the lake showing her the eagles nests.   They headed out Wednesday just as we went back on duty, worked out great.  It is always good to see family!

Rudy always sits on Karen's lap!!

Three days of camp hosting went fast Diane did all the site cleaning and ticket posting while I did some mowing and vine pulling the first two days.  I would cut brush and vines stack them along the road for Diane to pick up later.  I would quit, go shower and have a beer while she kept working.  It was hard to convince her that it was fair.   Friday was a busy day it took both of us to clean fire pits and post tags.   The temperature is back on the rise and by 3 o'clock we were wore out.
The weekend was uneventful.  Hot close to 90 every day and humid.  We didn't go kayaking because it was to cold, then to many boats on the lake and now because it is to hot. Just waiting on some perfect temps they have to come soon. Diane did her shopping, laundry and general running around.  I mowed the volunteer sites and the surrounding area very slowly. We still have a fire most evenings just adjust how close we sit.  Yesterday (Monday)  I was going to scrub the tree debris off of the roof but it was just to hot.  By the time I swept it off I was sweating so much I could hardly see, so I quit and went into the A/C.  We spent the rest of the sitting around working on the computers with the A/C cranked.

Happy Fathers Day!!!

Sunday 20 June 2021       HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Well we some excitement this week some good and well some not so good.  Our work days were Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday...sloooow with only 6 or 8 check-ins each day.  Diane really did all the work as camp host and I did a bunch of mowing and weed eating to help out the maintenance volunteers.  The commercial mowers they hired are just terrible. They mow at high speed which does not cut the grass clean just runs it down, they skip spots that require an extra pass and they have ruts from spinning around the trees to fast.  So anyway I've been mowing around our site and surrounding area just to keep them out.

Back to the good things we did.  We went to look at some real estate which turned out to be a bust.  It was a nice 44 acre parcel with a house that needs taken down but as we walked the property there was junk (old washers, refrigerators, old farm equipment) scattered and over grown all over the place.  Just more work than we want at this age.  But on the way home we saw a doe standing along the edge of the road with that look of determination that

she was here first and not leaving.  We took a picture and left her have her spot.

Here at the park on Thursday and Friday nights the bears came through looking for some grub which they couldn't find so they cleaned out the dumpsters.  What a mess.  A mama bear and her cub shopping in our dumpster.  You can image the mess of chicken bones,  paper plates and just the nattiest stuff scattered up through the woods.  The good news is the full time paid rangers had to clean it up.   And like any good tourist we went over to take some pictures of the cub up a tree.

We did manage to get some kayaking in this week we both did a hour or so trip down shore line to the walk-in boat-in sites.  They are really nice but the tent camping days are over for us.  Diane went out again on Saturday for a hour or so but to many big boats on the water to enjoy it.

On a not so good note the wash machine quick working (kinda) on Wednesday.  Diane turned it on to run a load and nothing.  A little googling and we tried unplugging, waiting and plugging it back in and after a few attempts it worked,  then stopped.  Plug/unplug it worked.  Now it is Sunday and it works but you can't change the settings.  I called three RV dealers and a mobile guy.  Mobile guys was to busy and doesn't work on washers.  Two dealers said no and one hasn't called back yet.  At least it is working a little. We have already spent hours each day calling everyone in the area with no luck.  Each load she starts with a prayer hoping it runs.  We may have to wait until we get back down state to find a repair man.

And last but not least we got up this morning Diane went to put the windshield blind up and it just beeped at her.  So we have spent all morning trying to raise the blind with no luck.  Like any RV repair job the manuals are of little help.  The instructions say to depress the limit setting switch well it took two hours with a lot of researching and with a pair of long hemostats but we found it.  We pushed and nothing happened.  Next paragraph in the manual says call the service center for help so we already are planning next round of calling RV dealers.

To end on a good note Mike and Karen are coming up for a few days so we will be able to catch up on all the family news.

These were on the road
into the CG.  Diane
saw the 2 or 3 different time.

Rudy is standing guard at the wood pile......those darn chipmunks just won't stay away.

He said don't worry, I'll get them out of here and I promise I won't get stuck!!

Another week of Hosting!!

 Saturday 12 June 2021

Like life its self, this week went by in a hurry.   We worked Sunday and Monday kind of slow only one party crowd and that shut down early in the evening.   Sunday we had a lot of fire rings to clean out and of course we did some vine pulling and weed wacking, not required but we like to do what we can.  The weather has been "OK"  warm afternoons and cool evenings.  They keep calling for afternoon thunderstorms but we only had one but you had to be prepared every day.  So every time you go away we had to clean up, put the chairs away and shut the windows etc.  The one storm we got dumped over a 1/2 inch of rain in like 10 minutes I mean it just poured and then poof the sun came back out.
On Tuesday I had my regular check up with the doctor in Westfield that lead to a trip to Coudersport to the gastro doctor that lead to a  trip to Wellsboro for ultrasound and another x-ray.  To sum that all up in four days I had 2 doctors visits, 3 test in two different hospitals and put about  300 miles on the truck.  Now after all of that the doctor calls back to tell me my numbers look great, A1C is down, cholesterol is down and have a great summer.  Good news just took all week to get there.
Now while I was running all over Tioga county Diane was stuck here at the Moho going stir crazy.  She had to fit grocery shopping and all of her other shopping around my doctors visits.  So Saturday we went to do some yard saleing in Elkland.  They were having a town wide yard sale day.  So... we left here around 10:30 to go to town and wouldn't you know it just down the road is a flea market sign and we pull in.  Turns out the store used to be a sporting goods store and now the owner is retired and the place is more a sporting goods flea market.  Well I got to talking to guy for awhile then a little longer meantime Diane is tired of looking at fishing lures and keeps reminding me of the time.  Finally we leave with  4 or 5 items including four books Diane wanted.  He didn't charge her cause she had to wait so long.
We finally get to Elkland around 11:30 yard sales everywhere, people walking the streets and you can sense a "find" just waiting for you.  We parked and hadn't hit but two or three sales when hunger hit us.  So we go to  the Rusty Nut restaurant for some lunch.  It is a new BBQ type place with really good smoked meats.  We split the combo and it was still way to much to finish but very good except for the over use of pickled onions in just about everything.  Lunch is over and we enjoyed it, now it's time to hit the yard sales.  We soon realized it must have ended at 1:00 or so because by the time we returned some were gone some packing up and the rest just had junk.  So we took the back way home and called it a day.
We have Sunday yet before our next shift and hope to get some kayaking in.  Saturdays are a little busy on the lake for kayaking with all the ski boats, jet skiers, and fishing boats buzzing around. That's about it for this week.

Taking a break from Kayaking,
Beautiful day on the Lake.

Visiting Corning, NY

 Saturday 29 May 2021
     thru
Thursday 3 June 2021

Since we are just parked here I'll probably do weekly updates unless something really exciting happens.  This week was all about the weather.  It rained all day Saturday and Sunday putting down 1.5  inches of water plus it was cold like 42 degrees cold.  A heck of a Memorial Day weekend.  The sun did shine all day Monday as most of the campers were packing to go home.  We were on  duty Thursday Friday and Saturday without incident since the rain and cold weather kept everyone in their campers.  We felt bad for all the folks who brought boats, kayaks and such and didn't get to use them at all.
We went off shift Sunday and did our usual running around grocery store, laundry, post office etc.  By Wednesday the rain returned not all day but it kept everything wet for two more days.  We want to get out of the camper and do something fun but the weather is just not cooperating.  Well, sooner or later it will get nice.  Sun shine is to be back this weekend but temperatures almost 90 degrees.  That is correct 45 degrees last weekend and 90 this weekend and yes we do work Saturday, Sunday and Monday.   We are hoping to get some kayaking and biking in this week.  Even our campfire nights have been limited to say nothing of grilling out, nothing like cooking in rain and 50 degrees.
We did take the back way up and a different back way home from Corning today and although the weather was between crappy and plain rain it was still something different and we found a NY state park and a campground we will check out another day.  And for the first time since COVID hit we had both lunch and diner out, well diner was take out but none the less two store bought meals. Whoo-Hooo
That is about it for this week.

Just some pictures from Corning, NY.

Spent a couple of nice days there!!
