Three short days in Dillsburg

 Thursday 20 August 2020

Woke up this morning and did not have to move. OH that feels good.  We had breakfast on the grill first in like 6 days.  We were just relaxing,  making a few phone calls, getting groceries and just hanging out.  After countless "push one for English etc."  "a representative  will be with you shortly" and my favorite "your call is important to us" we didn't get anything resolved.  Diane looked at the clock it was almost 3pm our patience worn down, tempers short and didn't get groceries we quit and started happy hour early.  We did manage to get Tony's scooter reassembled and loaded back on the truck.  We sat outside grilled a chicken breast for wraps and enjoyed the evening.  What a lovely evening.

Friday 21 August 2020

Woke up for the second day in a row without the air conditioners running.  After a quick breakfast it was off to Gratz VFW to drop off Tony's scooter. They had bought it for him and Kate wanted it passed on to another veteran who is in need.  It was almost 4pm by the time we returned from Gratz and Rudy was not happy.  We took him for a nice long walk around the park and we noticed there is not one trailer for sale and several cluttered trailer are gone.  I guess they are cleaning the place up a bit.  We got back to the Moho we were warm Diane went to turn the A/C down and.....the thermostat  was not working.  No time to mess with it right now we are meeting Lynn and Rick for dinner, opened some windows and off we went.  Dinner was great always nice to see the Shirks and get our mail of course.  Back at 9pm opened all the windows tried to get some sleep.

Saturday 22 August 2020

Well we didn't have a good night the temperature only went down to 68 or so and a very warm night for sleeping.  I did a quick check on google to see if I could learn anything about the thermostat.  I had to remove the thermostat completely and still couldn't find the wiring so I removed the tank indicator panel and power controller panel to find the plug for thermostat.  Unplugged it waited five minutes plugged it back in everything was working again.  Wires hanging out everywhere.  I put it all back together and cranked the A/C down.  It is a travel day so we packed and headed out about 11:30.  Pretty much uneventful ride to Tompkins Campground in Lawrenceville PA.  We were parked and set up by 5pm just in time for happy hour and burgers on the grill.  We are here for 2 weeks, no moving, except for the transmission appointment on Tuesday.

Sunday 23 August 2020

Lazy day today.  We worked around the camper.  I did manage to get fire wood this afternoon but by  fire time it was raining.  The rain screwed up dinner plans so it was nacho's made with deer burger.  and that was about it for the day.

We put up the screened in room and the cell phone

booster, that took most of the day!!

Monday 23 August 2020

This morning Diane had a doctor's appointment at 9:30, just a check up.  She had to wait to get an X-ray and picking up some prescriptions she was back by 2:30.  You talk about killing a whole day in a hurry.  She was wore out.  We sat by the fire and talked until we were chased in by thunderstorms.  Jen was telling us how dry it is here, well it has rained two out of the three days we were here.  The rain quit and we ran out got the fire burning again and again the rain came.  Called it quits went inside and had baked haddock for dinner.  As we finished eating looked outside the sun was out and not one drop of rain since we came in.  Oh well.

Back to PA

 Sunday 16 August 2020

I did get to have breakfast with Len while Diane packed up the camper.  She is so lucky.  It was good to see Len, he was taking his new boat down to St. Pete for the afternoon.  I was back at 9:30 and we were rolling up the highway by 10:45.  We were going to stay and leave on Monday but decided to get started today.  A stop for fuel and we arrived at Inland Harbor campground at 3:30.  A nice camp ground we couldn't decide if we stayed here before or not the campgrounds are starting to all look alike.

Monday 17 August 2020

On the road by 8:50 arrived at Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill SC at 3:30.  A 288 mile day.  The park is very nice and ran by the county. This time the beach area was under construction but nice for over

night. I think Diane made sausage and rice for dinner.  Can't seem to remember much this trip. We are not used to leaving every morning.  Diane doesn't even get the throw rugs out.  Just enough to keep Rudy comfortable.

Not a bad site for overnight, but I wouldn't want to be here a week, our picnic table is across the road from the Camper and you can't put the awning out....our slide outs just fit.😂😂

Tuesday 18 August 2020

On the road at 9:05 arrived at Walnut Hills Campground in Staunton VA at 3:25.  Another 290 mile day.  I needed DEF and  the wiper blade we bought last week that didn't fit, to return.  Diane did the running while I set up camp and she happened to pass a BBQ spot and returned with dinner as well. This driving, stop one night and drive again is getting old.

Wednesday 19 August 2020

Just one more day.  We were on the road at 9:45 and didn't arrive in Dillsburg until 3pm.  Traveling  just over 200 miles.  But we are tired of moving.  We stopped like 7 times including diesel fuel before entering PA.  We parked got everything situated before heading out to have dinner with Shane and Morgan. It was the only time to see them this trip.  Came back to the Moho and Mel and Pere drove over(at 9pm) to say hi because they are leaving tomorrow for VA.  But tomorrow we are NOT moving. OH yea!

To sum up the trip home.  It was long, hot, boring, hot and boring.  I did get diesel fuel for $2.11 a gal I think in GA.  And the transmission has been acting up the whole way home.  Keeps downshifting for no apparent reason.  And the transmission temperature sensor goes from 190 degrees to -12 degrees.  I need to get that fixed.

On our way to Florida

Tuesday 4 August 2020

A quick breakfast and a trip to NY to the big stores.  First was lunch we wanted to go Fran's Landing so we called to make sure they had inside dinning.  Our luck strikes again due to covid they are closed now Monday and Tuesday.  We survived  and went to little dinner in Tioga. Up to NY first wine store, Target, gas station(tire pressure low), Kohls, Best Buy, and the dollar store.  We came out of Target the rain had stopped and the sun was out.  I couldn't find my sun glasses so we pulled into the dollar store and bought 2 pair, I figured when I did the tires I left them lay on the bumper. Got home unload the truck and found my glasses in my sweater pocket.  Now I have 3 pairs.  A good meal of fish and rice. Yum.

Wednesday 5 august 2020

Breakfast on the grill, got water(three trips), while Diane did laundry, went to grocery store, auto parts, dress store, wine, Pag Omars for corn and cantaloupe. We are heading to Florida after getting word from Kate that Tony was being put into palliative care.  We packed most of our stuff.  Jen and Greg stopped over to stay goodbye for now.
Thursday 6 August 2020

We were on the road by 9am and still on the road at 5pm.  We hit some severe thunderstorms around 3:30 just as I thought we were going to make.  We were crawling along about 40mph when bang!  Passenger wiper blade came loose, parts flying and rain pouring down.  We pulled off about mile down the road and I fixed it so it wouldn't scratch the windshield, back on the highway.  Went 10 more miles and Diane noticed my wiper was coming loose, stopped fix that and crawled into our campground around 5:30.  Miles driven 377 and expecting the same tomorrow.  I just went to bed when the phone rang.  It was Kate, Tony had passed away around 9pm.  Oh what a sad day!!

RIP Dear Friend

Friday 7 August 2020

After last nights news we decided to stay another day to figure things out.  Diane went to the office around 10am.  No can stay campground is full.  After Diane made some calls we were in at a campground 10 miles away.  We pulled into the Shenandoah Acres Campground just after lunch and just before more storms went through.  We just kind of veg'd all afternoon.

If you look at the center, the was a bear
cub running through the campground,
nobody saw it's mama.

Saturday 8 August 2020

After a good breakfast we spent the day looking for a wiper blade and each store sent us to another around 1pm we quit and stopped for lunch at the German restaurant. We drove into Staunton to the Black Dog bike shop to get my tire fixed.  They did it on the spot for $12 you can't beat that.  Kate called to ask if we were still coming down and if we could take Tony's scooter along back to Pa.  So we spent the rest of the day making plans to head south.
The German Restaurant

Sunday 9 August 2020

We packed up and headed south to Mayberry Campground in Mt Airy NC  We pulled in around 4pm got everything situated for burgers and happy hour.  A more normal day for us around 200 miles.  Is is Hazy, Hot & Humid.  Back inside making plans for tomorrow we have to drive down to an RV dealer to get a wiper blade then back to traveling on Tuesday.

Monday 10 August 2020

Still quite warm it was 70 degrees at 6:30 this morning.  I took Rudy for a walk and started breakfast.  By the time breakfast was ready I was sweating.  We had our run to Bill Plemmons RV pick up our $48 wiper blade had lunch at Grandma Ruby's dinner after seeing the line at Chick-Fil-A.  Lunch was good I had chicken and dumplings and sweet potato casserole(just wonderful).  Diane had chicken pie which was just chicken in a pie shell covered with gravy. Both were great.  Back to the camper I'm packing while Diane hit the grocery store and post office.  Beef tips and noodles for diner.  All three A/C's running non stop.

Tuesday 11 August 2020

We hit the road around 9:30 headed to Santee KOA.  Pulled in around 4:15 all set up and settled in by 5pm.  Another 300 plus mile day.  And to make things even better we got a stone chip in the windshield.  Still hot we ordered wings from the campground, they were OK but we probably won't get them again.  Never unpacked much, plan is to head out tomorrow for Kings Bay navy base.

The CG was on Lake Marion, beautiful and very, very hot.

Wednesday 12
We were on the road by 8:30.  Changed our plans and are going to try to make it to Wildwood in one day, almost 400 miles.  We had a little help from South Carolina DOT.  We planned three stops first one was a rest area for a coffee and break.... rest area closed!  We made it pulled into Three Flag campground in Wildwood FL at 4:30.  A long hard day for us.  Burgers on the grill a few glasses of and we were done for night.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 13 -15 August 2020

Not much to report. Three days in FL in the middle of August.  HOT  We went down to visit Kate, help her move and picked up Tony's scooter to return to the VFW.  Kate and Tony bought a home just across the street with larger doorways and such to enable Tony to get around easier.  He never had a chance to live in it.  Kate's brother Earl and I moved some of the larger things beds, chairs and tables while Diane and Kate scrubbed bathrooms.  We ended up sitting and talking(crying) just as much as working.  Kate is doing as good as you can expect.  A little overwhelmed with all the things to do for Tony's arrangements and moving into a new place. She will be having a memorial later(don't know when) probably at the Gratz VFW.
We visited and took some flowers out to Shawna.  We also managed to get a few dinners in a the local seafood places.  Trying to get together with Len but haven't heard back. Diane is at the grocery store now we hope to head back to PA tomorrow.  Almost forgot we went to look at two motorhomes we found on the internet....pic's looked good.  First one was moldy with the ceiling falling down,  second just the ceiling was falling down.
Hopefully the ride home we will have some pictures and have happier things to report.

Passing time in Tioga County

Monday 27 July 2020

What a day it started with a dentist appt for me and time for Diane to start her prep for her colonoscopy.  I was in and out of the dentist in no time but you know Diane had a long day no food at all.

Tuesday 28 July 2020

Procedure day.  Up at 4am take meds no breakfast and off to Elmira Hospital we go.  Diane hasn't had a thing to eat for over 36 hours and the procedure is not until noon.  But she actually felt good enough to stop for lunch before heading home.  Back home she waited for the pot roast to finish cooking so we could eat diner.  After diner with two good meals back in her system she was feeling much better and life as I knew it was getter better also.  A glass of wine after diner and woo-who she is back to normal.

Wednesday 29 July 2020

We had a nice breakfast cooked on the grill.  W didn't eat outside it is still almost 70 degrees in the mornings.  I headed back to the dentist for a cleaning after lunch and again I was the only one there  in and out in a half hour. Then I had the list Diane sent.  Stops at the post office, grocery store, wine store, Pag Omar's and finally for gas. That took longer than my appointment.  Back home unload and headed up to Jen and Greg's for hog maw sausages and broccoli salad.  A nasty thunderstorm chased us in but didn't last long.  We were back outside, cooked on the grill and sat by the fire afterward.  Another nice evening.

Thursday 30 July 2020

Mostly all buck!!
Diane headed to town right after breakfast and I did my walk out to Pine camp and back.  Diane came back we unloaded the truck she did her walk while I cleaned up.  We decided on wings from the VFW for diner so we drove over and back the back way and saw over 80 deer including a whole flock of buck close to the campground. What a good ride and the wings were great too.

Friday 31 July 2020

Our site at Cole's
Moving day.  We are moving less than ten mile to Cole's in Middlebury Center.  Check out time is not until 3pm.  And you may have already guessed it was almost three until we were ready to pull out.  In our defense we had breakfast on the grill and wanted to shower, do dishes and fill the tank and containers with water since we won't have any for a few days.  After the long 15 minute drive we arrived safe and sound.  It was very hot and humid so I hooked up just the electric, put the awning out and did as little as possible until it cooled down a bit.  The usual moving day meal, burgers on the grill.

Saturday 1 August 2020

We had a quick breakfast, cleaned up and headed to the rail to trails.  After we were done Diane noticed the liner in my helmet was coming lose and remember..... I ran over the other helmet.  Back home showered and went to Mansfield to the bike shop to check on helmets and a new bike rack.  Ended up buying two helmets and ordering a new rack.  His bike inventory was very low and the accessories weren't a whole lot better. I guess the covid has a lot people out exercising and that plus all the plants and factories shut down for months has inventory way down.  Since we were in town and there were a few antique stores we haven't visited yet this trip, we just had to stop in.  It wasn't all that bad, three stores to shop in and only one purchase.  I told Diane we will need another storage unit.  Drove home the back way just enjoying the day.  Back home I grilled fresh sausage and Diane made fried turnips.  They were OK but I don't think we will have any time soon.

Sunday 2 August 2020

Saw this on our ride,
it made us both laugh.
There is a water tank in
the red part!!
Scrapple and eggs for breakfast, Yum.  Diane went to town for wine and drugs.  I stayed home searched the internet and found a Moho in VA we may go check out.  It is for sale by owner which means we would have to sell ours privately, something I don't want to do as we'll  lose $4,000 on taxes alone.  Maybe we will just check it out for style and room and wait for one to come up from a dealer.  Anyway she returned and we packed the cooler and drove to Coudersport to check out a few campgrounds and again came home the back roads.  We did notice several businesses/museums are closed all season because of the covid.
