A hot week in PA!!

Monday 20 July 2020

Made it to
Ives Run.
Still hot it was 84 degrees when we were ready to leave at 10 am.  Diane went over to Lynn's to get our mail and I headed up the highway.  I pulled into the old Angie's diner and made some lunch until she arrived.  We had lunch, hooked up the truck and headed north.  We stopped in Blossburg for fuel and decided to unhook there, that way Diane could shop for fresh corn on her way to Ives Run.  We rolled in around 4pm or so and were still hooking up when Jen and Greg stopped by.  We chatted for awhile said hello and such then finished hooking up.  The usual travel day burgers on the grill.

Tuesday 21 July 2020

Diane had a hair cut appointment so she dropped me off at rail to trail.  I rode my normal ride and meet her back at the trailhead.  It was after lunch so we both ordered subs from Pag Omar's.  The mayo or something must have been going bad because we were a little nauseated.  In their defense it was hot and could have been from the heat.

Wednesday 22 July 2020

The heat continues.  We did a two mile walk around the campground this morning trying to take advantage of the lower morning temperature. Scrapple and eggs for breakfast cooked on the grill but we have been eating inside(to hot even at breakfast time)  We headed to Lowes for a battery powered weed whacker and ended up with just a pack of batteries.  We did find a antique store we hadn't been in yet so we stopped.  I couldn't believe it we found a few items we needed.  Took a slow walk around the park with Rudy and just had salad with grilled chicken on it.

Thursday 23July 2020

Dr's appointment for me, covid test for Diane.  She dropped me off at the Dr's office at 9:30 then drove to Corning Hospital for a covid test.  She says it was terrible.  The swab went in her left nostril and out her right ear, or so it felt.  I went for breakfast and the drug store for prescriptions and just  walked out the drug store when she pulled in.  Back home it was after lunch pretty much shot the whole day.  Grilled chicken and broccoli

Friday 24 July 2020

Big birthday today.  Diane turned 59 again.  As she requested cooked breakfast bacon and eggs.   Next we went to Wellsboro and had pizza for lunch at Tony's(her favorite).  Then we walked around town checked out quite a few stores before ice cream time.  She had a dish of homemade mint chocolate chip from the Creamery.  The only thing we found to buy was a new dress for her and the dominos game, Mexican train .   Back home steak, baked tater and mushrooms were in order for the birthday girl with a glass or two of wine.

Saturday 25 July 2020

Still awfully warm.  We went to a new section(for us) of the rail to trail. It was shaded almost the whole way.  We parked and I headed out for the normal 8 mile mark.  It was a beautiful ride in the shade along Pine Creek the whole way and quite busy both on the trail and in the creek. I passed a sign for the Tiadaghton camping area just ahead, so I went to check it out.  It was nice nothing special really.  But as I started back I noticed a mile marker and I was a mile farther than I wanted to go and up hill the whole way back.  I was 20 minutes longer than normal and Diane was getting worried by the time I returned.  No cell service along the trail.  It was still a good day she got her ride and walk in and managed to chat with a few riders as well.  Back to camp cleaned up and over to Jen and Greg's for diner.  A really nice evening the temperature dropped a little and their site is nicely shaded.  We sat outside chatted a while, had diner and then sat by the fire until almost dark.  A doe and baby walked out of the woods to feed just before we left.

This is interesting.  The thing on the left is a platform that you load you stuff on and  pull it over to the camp on the right side of the creek.

Sunday 26 July 2020

Breakfast on the grill and again we decided on a campground walk instead to a bike ride.  Just to hot.  We rested then headed up to Little Marsh via the back way to check out several properties that are for sale and a boat that Greg might be interested in getting.  And some how we ended up just a few miles from the VFW so we stopped for a beer and talked to the bartender Charlie.  It is really sad how the whole covid thing really hurts the small places.  However they did get a hot dog machine so they can "serve food" and stay open when the kitchen is closed.  Back home some wine and sausages on the grill.

Hot....really hot.

Friday 17 July 2020

We had breakfast cleaned up the camper a bit and headed into Jim and Nina's for pizza for lunch.
We headed into Dillsburg for wine, went to the Credit Union to deposit our change to help the coin shortage. Then over to pick up some literature from the senior center in Mechanicsburg for Bev. We drove home the back way, stopped by Walmar Manor to check out the place, the place turned into a kind of trashy place. Back home and chicken on the grill for diner.

Saturday 18 July 2020

Another quick breakfast and we took turns going for walks around the park (it is a 1.5 mile walk around the outside of the corn field that surrounds the park)  trying to get some exercise before the temps peaked.  Headed into Keisha's via stops at three or four yard sales. Diane bought three sets of salt and pepper shakers I bought a 40lb bench vise .  Diane's three sets of S&P fit in her hand and my vise besides being heavy was awkward to carry and almost impossible to lift into the truck bed.  Now I know you probably all wander by I bought it. All I can say is it seemed liked a good deal.  After visiting with Keisha for a while we stopped for lunch before heading home.  We no more than got home and it was time for Diane to get her first post covid pedicure.  She came home all smiles.  She got her pedi and ran into her sister Chrissy at the salon.  She came home all happy!

It's been soooooo hot this week all the local
animals have found Rudy's water dish.  He actually
isn't real happy about it..

Sunday 19 July 2020

Got up at 6am 68 degrees and humid.  We had breakfast on grill sausage, egg and cheese sandwich.  I half think I could have cooked it without turning on the grill.  By the time I was done cooking sweat was running down my forehead and I was looking for some A/C.  Diane headed into town for groceries and I started packing for our trip up to Ives Run tomorrow.  After sloooowly packing and organizing we cleaned up to go to Shane and Morgan's for diner.  First was a stop at the drug store, then the storage unit  and lastly Tractor supply.  Over to Shane's ordered the family pack of Bang-Bang shrimp tacos from Bones Fish Grill.  We ate talked and had a good time visiting.  Stopped a book off at Beverly's before heading home around 7:00.  The temperature, as we pulled in at 7:30 pm was 93 degrees.  We've had enough of this heat, heading north tomorrow.

Gettysburg Farm East Berlin PA

Monday July13 2020

We were packed and rolling around  9:45.  Diane dropped the trash off and we drove separate down to Selinsgrove hooked up and were back on the road by 10:30.  The drive to East Berlin was uneventful and we arrived at 12:30.  The usual travel day diner burgers on the grill.

A nice Site.
Tuesday 14 July 2020

We headed down to Denver PA to pick up auction items but first was lunch at Mission BBQ in York.  We had never been there before and what a nice place.  The food was great and the walls are covered with military pictures and tribute to all who have served.  If you haven't been there you got to go.  We picked up our stuff and came home.  It was kind of a long day for Rudy.

Wednesday 15 July 2020

Picked up our table from Brenizer's and took it to storage.  He did a really nice job, it was a shame to put in the storage unit.  What a struggle that was, we took half the stuff out put the table in and then repacked the whole thing and it was hot.  But first was lunch at the Thai place in Dillsburg food was good but we were the only ones there.   Dinner with Lynne and Rick at the Greystone in Dillsburg a lovely evening so we sat on the deck and enjoyed each others company.

The neighbor's company
didn't like our meal!
Thursday 16 July 2020

I headed in for a hair cut right after breakfast while Diane hit the hiking trail before it got to hot.  So I get to the barber shop the door is locked, lights are so I call the number on the door the barber answers and says he is in and to call when I get there,  I am here I tell him, come on in he says, can't the door is locked.  He finally figures it out and I get my haircut.  Apparently he is trying to save his customers money because I won't need another cut until Christmas.  I mean shorter than short.  Back home (you should have seen Diane's look) showered and over to T J Rockwells to have lunch with Bev.  She gets out of the car and says "well you I got your moneys worth at the barber".  We had a nice lunch and a really nice visit.  Back to camp chicken on the grill for diner and chased inside by the rain showers.

The Shangri-La Milton PA

Thursday July 9 2020

We had a nice breakfast and headed out to the rail trail for our exercise before Rick and Lynne arrive.  It was hot. We lasted the whole time but both were soaked with sweat.  I rode almost to the far end and turned around.  When I got back Diane tells me there is a brewery at the end of the trail.  I was just a half mile away.  We loaded up drove back to see the Rusty Rail brewery at the end of the trail.  I was so close!  We stopped at a farmers market/restaurant for lunch where we should of shared a meal, it was very good and very large.  I ate mine any way Diane took half of hers home.

Friday July 10 2020

Diane headed to the grocery store.  We had the day to kill before Lynne and Rick arrived  so we drove over to Milton stopped at one or two antique stores.  One was open but didn't have much, the other was closed but looked like nice stuff(through the windows).  After a stop at Purity's chocolate store we headed back to camp.  Lynne and Rick showed up around 5 o'clock we talked while Rick got the camper situated.  Then crab cakes for dinner. Yum! then some wine and more visiting.

Saturday July 11 2020
Enjoying our
Wine Day!!

We all had a nice breakfast scrapple cooked on the grill and scrambled eggs.  Lynne and Diane went to town for "groceries"  took them for ever.  We headed out to do some wine tasting forgetting about the covid thing.  First winery, no tastings at all.  We just bought a bottle of wine which we sat and drank snacking on cheese and bologna we brought with us.  Second winery we each had a different glass of wine but again no "tasting".  The third winery, bingo they had tasting.  We had to sit outside but  that was ok it was a lovely spot with good wine and company.  Back at the campsite we enjoyed pulled pork bbq with coleslaw and corn on the cob with a campfire to top off the night.

Sunday July 12 2020

It's amazing what you
find in town when
you walk!
Lynne and Rick were packed up and ready to roll around 9:30.  We did our hugs and handshakes watched them drive off and then had a quick breakfast.   Weather continues to be very warm.  A bike ride seemed a bit much in this heat but we headed in anyway.  The place was packed  and the first two miles were a challenge getting around all people, kids, and dogs.  Diane parked her bike and walked through Lewisburg looking for the post office, so we  persevered.  Back home rested a bit and started packing for the trip back down to East Berlin.

Happy Fourth of July

Saturday July 4 2020

We picked up Bev around noon and headed to Lynne and Rick's for a family gathering and cookout.  Temp's were high so not a lot of sitting out.  But the food was great and so was the company.  I think we had enough food for ten more people. Rick's mom, sister and us all brought food and along with what Lynne and Rick had we were all full and took some along home.  We dropped Bev off, she had a wonderful day and then headed back to the Moho.  We plopped our butts in the lawn chair and just sat there digesting food needless to say no diner.  What a great day.

Sunday July 5 2020

We took our time packing up, pulling out around 11:00 heading back to Cole's in Tioga county.  Shari, Matt and two of the kids our heading into visit PA and should arrived tomorrow afternoon.  After stopping for lunch in Selinsgrove we pulled in at 4pm.  First we unhooked in Tioga so I could get water at Ives Run before we parked.  After setting up it was burgers on the grill and then waiting to hear from the kids.  They finally texted they were in Erie and should be in Wellsboro early afternoon.

Monday July 6 2020

Chillin' by the pond!
We had a quick breakfast and started to pack food, grill, fishing stuff, wine and beer. It was difficult because they are in a motel so we needed everything.  Spices, silverware, butter and you know, everything!  We headed over to the Colton Point Motel around 2pm.  It was so good to see them.  We all grabbed a beer well Matt and I did anyway.  It was hot so we sat by the pond, the kids fished and swam I mostly sat in the shade.  Diane and Shari walked around the property checked it all out and finally showed up at the shade tree with a wine.  Dinner was steak, potatoes, salad and all the fixing.  Diane and I finally headed home about 8:30 you know us old people like to be home before dark.

Tuesday July 7 2020

Mountain Man Matt
hanging out after
breakfast.
Another hot day.  It was almost 70 degrees when I got up.  We were fixing breakfast for the kids after they did their morning run (2 miles).  Breakfast was scrapple, eggs with potatoes and toast etc.  We figured they would leave right after breakfast.  No.  To our surprise they talked us into a hike....a two mile each way hike.....a  straight up the hill hike.  They would get ahead then wait on Diane and I.  As soon as we caught up they would start hiking again.  No rest for us.  Well we told them(once we caught our breath) we needed a break. We thought we were going to die.  We didn't.  We made it all the way to to top to a nice overlook spot.  Then back down. That was much easier but still two miles.  Back at the vehicles we decided on ice cream cones.  Down to Pag-Omar ice cream cones all the way around.  Remember I said it was hot.  We are eating as fast as we can but not fast enough.  Mathew had ice cream running down to his elbow dripping on his shirt and finally to his shoes.  Once again we all survived and thanks to Nana and her handy spray bottle we cleaned up Mathew.  It was really a great day and good to see them all.
The kids enjoyed the hike.

Wednesday July 8 2020

No time to rest or recover.  We were packed up and rolling by 10:30.  I headed to NY for diesel fuel and Diane went to Wellsboro to pick up pills.  We met at Tractor Supply in Mansfield hooked up and headed to next stop Yogi at the Shangri-la in Milton PA.  This is where Shane and Morgan were to get married.  We had an uneventful ride and pulled in to the Shangri-la campground at about 2:00.  Temperature is still in the 90's and it was very warm getting things set up.  The usual burgers on the grill while the A/C ran non stop.  Needless to say, no fire tonight.

Hot Hot Hot

Wednesday 1 July 2020

Hot Hot Hot.  We had breakfast outside with the fan running.  A few things to get out of the way before the big move tomorrow.  We headed to Dillsburg stopped at Brenizer's to check on our table, he was closed.  Out to storage unit, down to farm visited Norman for a little,  up to his house to visit Pat before she went to work at Giant.  On the back through Dillsburg Brenizer's was open, next was Warrington Farm butcher shop and then home.  Beverly came over for chicken on the grill and we had a really nice visit.

Thursday July 2nd 2020

69 degrees when I woke up this morning.  We had a lite breakfast and lunch before heading to Chris and Thom's old place to start packing.  Very warm a lot of water breaks and the A/C couldn't keep up with the doors open half the time.  It went like most moves, chaotic at first but by 3:30 we were heading to the new place.  U-haul truck, two pick-ups and two suv's loaded.  It was well after 6 until all the vehicles were empty.  Lynne, Diane and I headed home around 7pm.  At days end most of their stuff was at the new place, not put away but it was at the new place.  I don't know about the rest of the people but my muscles hurt and just cried for beer so I had a few.

July 3rd

With most of the moving done we were not needed today.  So a cooked breakfast with outside dinning and looking forward to doing nothing.  Not happening.  Diane went to the  grocery store as soon as she returned I went for gas ( points expire tomorrow) and to wash the truck.  I returned we jumped back in and headed to Dillsburg first stop Al's( lunch) then looked at a house which was just nothing like the write up.  Not done yet.  Down to Chris's new place to drop off a few things left in the truck. Back to Dillsburg to the hardware store, another house to look at and finally home around 5:30.  Just gota love days with nothing to do

Week in Middleury Center

June 24th to June 30 2020

The storm moving in.
Oh my how time gets away from us. I have some catching up to do.  Diane went shopping on the 24th and I started out to fix the loose panel above the bed.  Long story short.  The panel was loose because it was to wide (I thought) turns out the panel on the wall was installed to high.  Anyway by the time I was done most of my tools were in the bed room with me.  Diane came home to a big mess.  It was well into happy hour by the time I cleaned up but the panel is installed correctly.
On the 25th we headed into the trail but were quickly run off by thunderstorms.  By the time we got home is was sunny again.  We stayed home anyway.
We went kayaking on the 26th adjusted the seat back, foot rest and seat position trying to get comfortable.  It worked much better but is still a bit big for us. It was a hot day playing in the water was nice.  We went home and listed it for sale.
Saturday the 27th we made a run to NY to look at a RV.  It was new, it was a Newmar and we wanted to love it.  But it just didn't do anything for us.  Had lunch at a little spot in downtown Bath don't need to go back. In their defense they have only been open three days and were still trying to figure out the post covid rules.

Our short lived toy! 😞

The kayak didn't last long. We got several inquires the first guy was a little strange and the sale quickly fell apart. The second guy bought it (with cash) and was here by noon.  Poof kayak is gone.  We headed in to the trail for a nice ride.  Diane stopped to let a doe cross the trail and seconds later the babies followed.   Very warm but we needed the exercise.
The big day finally came on the 29th.  Diane got her first post covid haircut. She was so excited and it turned out so nice.  It was almost lunch by the time she returned.  In the mean time Rudy and I had started to pack for the trip down state tomorrow.  Seems having a truck still gets you invited to moving events.  Chris and Thom are moving on the July 2nd and we are following the Angeli tradition of  helping the family.

There is probably a lot of other note worthy stuff, but I just can't remember them.  We had a campfire almost every night even though it has been so hot.  I made several trips to Ives Run for water.   We took a nice drive up over the mountain by the old house on our way to the VFW for wings.

 Tuesday June 30 2020

I was up a 6 and watching a red fox work his way around the camp site. I tried to get pictures but
he was to quick.  Since Gettysburg Farm is first come, first served and pick your own site we were up packed and ready to pull out by 9:15.  We hooked the truck up last night so we were ready to go for the 195 mile drive.  We stopped to make coffee and a quick stop for lunch.  We arrived around 2:15 took the first spot we found a good choice too as we saw several people driving around as we set up.  Again it was HOT we were hot and sweaty by the we were done getting everything out.  Rudy is happy he still lays in the sun.  Burgers for diner and chilled white wine for happy hour.
