Next repair Saga!!

Thursday August 8 2019

With the electric fixed we turned on all three A/C units when I went to bed.  A little later Diane was getting ready for bed and noticed it was a little warm so she checked the electric panel and we were once again only getting one leg of electric. She woke me up but I told her there was nothing to do until morning, so she came to bed, but she really didn't sleep much, electric scares her.  I got up checked it
If you enlarge this pic,
the top wire is melted!!

first thing in the morning and the wire was still tight.  Opened up the transfer switch box and wha-la, one wire is burned off completely and neutral has turned brown and the plastic box is melted a little. I would have to say not to far from a fire.  So now we are having so much fun we can't hardly stand it.  It is Thursday we have to leave Friday and we have no electric.  Now the good news.  There are about 10 RV dealers within 20 miles of us.  Diane made a list and we started calling.  By 10:30 I was in truck to the first guy 12 miles away after talking for a little he flat out said he would prefer Not to do it.  Why couldn't he say that on the phone.  It was lunch by the time I arrived at dealer number
two and wouldn't you know it he is a Winnebago dealer that uses our warranty company.  OH Yea. His supplier has the part we need and he is just across town. But they can't get it until Friday afternoon, closed Sat & Sun, could do it first thing Monday.  I explained we had to leave the campground Friday and he had the answer, for $50 he could get the part today.  And no, I wasn't aloud to go pick it up.  But Hey, we have a part and should be a quick repair.  As I'm walking out I told the service man the 4 foot piece of wire going into the box would need replaced as well.  Would you believe it they don't have wire in stock. He suggested we buy a 30 foot, 50 amp extension cord  for $250 and cut 4 feet off of it.  I don't think so.  Back home we had lunch, Diane headed to the grocery store and I started searching for wire.  I found a wire for an electric range I thought would work at Menard's( big lumber store).  Diane returned and I headed out to Menard's for wire.  On my way I passed a Home Depot and buzzed right in, sure enough they had the wire $7.30 a foot.  I paid the price and went home.  We are all set for morning appointment at 8:30-9:00.  Happy hour was early and lasted more than a hour.

Friday August 9 2019

We were up and moving early pulled into the dealership at 8:45.  We did some running around
Beautiful place,
we will need to come back!!
stopped at an ACE hardware store and then had a late brunch. We went back walked around some RV's in the show room and about 11:30 we were done. YEA.  We hit the road at 12:30 heading to Fort Ripley about 120 miles up the road.  An uneventful trip, stopped for a quick break at a rest area and pulled into camp around 3:30.  This is a beautiful place right on the Mississippi River.  Only 17 sites with water and electric but you get free fire wood which you need to keep the mosquitoes at bay.  After getting situated I started a fire and made burgers on the grill.

I took Rudy for his walk this morning and showed up back at camp with ten mosquito bites six on the
Old Movie Theater in town
back of my neck.   Diane had to spay me with calamine lotion.   After a quick breakfast we went to Little Falls to check it out.  The lady at check in told Diane about what a great town Little Falls is and we needed to see it.  The restaurant she recommended was very good.  The rest of town not so much, most things were closed and even main street itself was closed for repairs. We drove to the Weyerhaeuser and Musser mansions which sit side by side on the Mississippi river but we were to late for the tour, so we just walked around the grounds.  We walked around town for awhile stopped at the butcher shop that also was very good.  On the way back we spied a yard sale and stopped in Diane found a salt & pepper set she needed.  Back home walked Rudy(I'm now wearing jeans and flannel) we walked along the rivers edge until Rudy found a snake.  Back to camper and started the fire, smoked hot dogs from the butcher shop for dinner.

Walked Rudy, jeans and flannel are standard now for me.  Apparently I'm much sweeter because they
Pleated wood pecker
hopping around the CG
don't seem to bother Diane much.  Breakfast on the grill,  bacon from the butcher shop and it was good.  Just kind of hanging out today the campground is so quiet and peaceful.  Started the fire at lunch then Diane headed to the base laundry and I cleaned up a little.  Diane came back the laundry was very clean and FREE.  This place is great $17.00 a night with water and sewer, free fire wood and free laundry.  Diane is sitting by the fire reading a book as I finish up the blog.  Rudy has enjoyed some off leash time and says we should come back here again.  Ribs and corn from (you guessed it) the butcher shop to be cooked on the grill then more relaxing. I have to get done happy hour is just 15 minutes away and I don't want to be late.
