Rv'ing in the Snow!!

    The only thing on the news is the impending snow storm tomorrow they are calling  for 10-24 inches.  But we stuck to our schedule down to York County court house for our carry permits, next stop was Fedex to ship Shari's Christmas package, lunch at a Rutter's gas station (had to eat) and the last place was Weis market for the usual pre-storm groceries.  Just us and a hundred other people in the store getting groceries.  We weren't much more than in the door when the RV repair guy calls he is on his way down to fix the Moho.  Well good thing we were home.  He finished just before 4pm. I  guess he didn't want to crawl under the moho in two feet of snow.  We are happy, we can leave now whenever we want.  Diane returned from getting a pedi she is trying to get hair, nails etc done for the wedding before we leave PA. Things are starting to shape up nicely now.

   Everyone is preparing for the 'big' snow storm to start at lunch and we were no different.  I went to the drug store, storage unit and dropped some deer meat off at Bev's.  On my way home Diane called and we just ran out of propane and the snow is now falling.  I pull in pick up propane tank and head back out, by now the roads are snow covered and very slippery but I persevered?  When I got back it was time for Diane hair appointment, she had called and they were open.  She drove into town passed a four car wreck on route 15 almost another one in Dillsburg and as she parks they are locking the door.  They told she was rescheduled to Saturday.  All ended well she got back home safely.  Snow continues into the night.

RV'ing in the Snow!

We wake up and sun comes out and what a beautiful morning.  We ended up with only 8-10inches of the white stuff.  Works just fine for us cause we want to get out of here early next week.  Roads in central PA were still in terrible shape and it wasn't long before Diane got the call from the dentist her appointment was rescheduled until Monday.  Sooo we shoveled out and enjoyed the day the best we could.  It was sunny all day with temps in the high 30's.  I reconnected water filled the fresh water tank and Diane even got a load of laundry done before it was time to disconnect again for the night.  The connecting and disconnecting almost every day is getting very very old.

   Cotton pick'n cold this morning 11 degrees when I got up.  We put two extra heater in the basement storage to help keep the water lines from freezing.  Can't wait to head south to warmer weather.  Christmas dinner at Lynne and Rick's with Shane and Morgan we all had a good time even Rudy and Cody got to socialize a little.  By the time we had a glass of wine and opened gifts it was to late play any games.  We had the usual 30 minute "Angeli goodbye" and headed home.  It was going on 11 o'clock when we got home really late for us.

   Slept in later than normal after being up so late last night but then we remembered we were to be at Mel's for Christmas breakfast at 10.  We didn't do to bad we rolled in

about 10:30.  It was a good time Keisha, her kids, Taylor and Mel.  Pere is still in Alabama for work.  We all exchanged gifts and had a good time.  We had to leave around noon so Diane could get to her rescheduled hair appointment.  She dropped me off with Rudy and went right to town.  When she returned I hooked up the water filled the tank and dumped gray tank then disconnected again(it is getting old).  Next I went up and broomed off about half of the Moho roof.  The temperature finally got into the mid 30's.  I quit when my feet were cold and I slipped one time to many. Ah camping in the winter.  

 Time to head in for a nice glass of wine.

   After a quick breakfast I packed the truck and made the finally run to the storage unit (or so I thought) I didn't even park right went Diane called with three things I forgot.  Oh well at least we are close by.  By the time I got back she was showered and ready to head to Wellsboro for her re-rescheduled dentist appointment. She left at 11:30 and Bev showed up at 12:30 and we went to Brothers restaurant for dine in lunch.  Yep, despite the state order they were open and serving.  We enjoyed lunch and talking and being in a full restaurant.  We came back talked for awhile we had a good time.  I went up to finish cleaning off the roof while is "was warm" almost 40 degrees.  I finished that up and started packing/cleaning up for our trip south.  OH yea.

   Diane is in Wellsboro waiting for her dentist appointment and I'm busy packing stuff.  we have been here almost six weeks and you forget how much stuff had been moved around until you try putting things away.  I worked steady all day until Diane arrived at 4pm she would have made it by 3pm  But I needed her to pick up some coins from auction place in Harrisburg. We said hi, walked Rudy and headed down to do a gift exchange with sister Chrisy and family.  Always good to see family.  By the time we got back we were in high gear packing for tomorrow.  And we are almost back on the road.

   Diane had her appointment this morning at 8:30 while I had Bev drive me around central PA picking up auction merchandise.  She picked me up at 10am.  We had a pleasant drive down through Hershey, Palmyra and all the other little towns to Annville. I picked up our stuff and no mention of the crossbow  snafu. Next was lunch at Funcks in Palmyra(I think).  We had a nice lunch, service was great, I think there were only three other tables occupied. The second auction stop was 1065 Main St Mechanicsburg.  The reason I mention the address is that the address is the old church in Lisburn.  A stop for gas at Sheetz and the trip was over.  Bev came in we talked a little more before she headed home.  It was a great visit.   

  Diane pulled in around 3:30 several bags of Christmas gifts but no new tooth.  It turns out it didn't fit so now she goes back up the 17th for another fitting.  So here is the Tioga schedule I returned 30 Nov,  Diane went up 2 Dec home 3 Dec,  I go up 8 Dec and home 12 Dec, Diane goes up 16 Dec and home 17 Dec.  You talk about putting mileage on a vehicle.  No dinner plans so hot dogs and baked beans for dinner.

   The RV repair guy was to be here today so we stayed here making short trips to the storage unit and grocery store.  After lunch we were bored to tears but kept holding out hope that the RV guy would make it.  Nope, he did not show up, did not call, back up day is Tuesday.  Can't wait to see what happens then.  We have been in Dillsburg over two weeks now and are suffering some hitch itch.  With Covid we haven't gone out much to eat and I hate to say it I'm tried of home cooked meals. Happy hour came and went unnoticed, Diane made spaghetti for dinner.

    We have been working or at least talking about plans for Florida this winter and maybe work camping next year.  Just waiting for covid to subside and/or be vaccinated away.  Still half afraid to go to busy public places.

   39 degrees this morning and Diane cooked breakfast inside.  I am trying to take advantage before we head south and she thinks 42 is warm enough to cook outside.  Actually I'm looking forward to warmer days and grilling outside.  But for now Rudy predicts another two weeks of winter in central PA.

  I don't know how I got so far behind with the blog.  Seems like this happens every year at this time.  We have Christmas shopping, cookie making, gift wrapping, motorhome fixing and of course hunting season.  So here goes for the high lights of the past ten days.

   The slide out is still not fixed.  The mobile repair guy was here on the 8th checked it out and has ordered the replacement motor.  Now we are waiting on him to get the part and schedule the install and we want to leave on the 20th.  Not sure that will happen we must have the motor installed before we leave.

    The evening of the 8th I packed and headed to the cabin for the last four days of deer season and I had Dr's appointment on Wednesday. I called to get my prescriptions refilled only to find out I needed blood work done and it was time for my check up.  So pretty much all day Wednesday was doctors office, pharmacy, grocery store and of course lunch.  I got back to cabin change clothes and went out for the last few hours.  Didn't see a deer.  The weather was cold with snow/drizzle mix and enough to coat the ground with snow.  The cabin was so cold Tuesday night I sleep downstairs on the recliner by the stove.  Thursday with snow on the ground and temps in the 20's I went out at 6 am and at 8:30 or so a nice doe walked out and I shot.  That was 8:30 it was 2pm until I had her cleaned, loaded in the truck and delivered to the butcher shop.  It was a nice day for hunting.  As the days went by the temps warmed a bit and by Saturday morning the cabin was warm and sleeping was very comfortable but of course it was almost time to leave.  Saturday came the last day of deer season and the cabin charm is starting to wear off. Trying to survive with all paper products, taking a bath with water in a basin and of course my favorite the trips to the outhouse. But I headed out got another doe around lunch.  Cleaned her up and hunted for buck until dark.  Sunday I was up had the place cleaned up by daylight.  I skinned the deer, washed up and was on the road by 9am.

   So now you wander what was Diane doing all this time just sitting around enjoying her time alone.  Nope she was busier than me with shopping, wrapping gifts, mailing packages and my favorite baking cookies.  I missed it all, she always gets to do the fun stuff and she was for the most part done when I got home.  Oh yea.  

   The only big excitement was my helping Diane with decalcifying the hot water heater using maleic acid and sulphamidic acid tablets.  You can guess were this is going already.  She started the process before I got home and she was out with Lynne so I decided to finish  the process and surprise her.  All I had to do was rinse the filter reinstall and turn the water back on.  So that is what I set out to do. She pulled in just as I headed for the heater.   I forgot the water was on and went I pulled the filter a blast of full pressure acidic water blasted me in the eyes.  I could barely see enough to get inside and yell for help.  Diane ran around like crazy getting me water(in bottles) and fixing the water heater so I could shower.  My eyes swelled and turned red instantly and the burning was almost unbearable.  Hour by hour I got a little better and did manage to fall asleep.  I awoke in the morning and my eyes were caked almost shut with crap.... They still were sore but it was obvious I would survive.  And yes I really did surprise her.

   Back to the hustle of the season.  We ran like crazy today but first Diane made us a nice cooked breakfast. I guess she did miss me.  Big thing today was going to Paul's to butcher and grind up the deer.  Paul was just finishing up his buck as I walked in so we started right in on mine.  With his help we were done having coffee in two hours.  The deer is now ground up but still in the back of the truck.  I returned the fuel cans to Ben's, dumped the tanks on the Moho unhooked the water and just finished walking when Diane returned from her pedicure. A  long day today  and even more running around tomorrow.

   We spent Thanksgiving at the Country Cupboard in Lewisburg with Shane, Morgan, Chris, Tom and the kids.  Only 8 of this year with COVID and all, but we had a good time.  You had to have reservations this year which meant no wait in line.  We all had the buffet it  was as good as ever.  Seems I was the only one who didn't plan ahead and wear stretchy pants,  I won't make that mistake again.  It was a nice day for the drive we even spent a little time walking through the shops.  We made it back just after 5pm flopped down in our chairs and called it a day.

   I was up getting ready to head to the cabin when the phone rings.  Lorin has a water leak in the house so we couldn't leave until that was fixed.  I headed to his place around 8:30, him and Logan were waiting on me.  We packed the truck and hit road around 9am.  First stop 9:15 McDonalds for breakfast, next was Williamsport for gas then Wellsboro for lunch and finally made it to the cabin about 2pm.  Unpacked, turned on the heater and started getting ready for the first day of buck hunting, this year you could hunt Saturday and Sunday.....oh my.  Meanwhile back at the camper Diane was Christmas shopping which included a stop at McCurdy's tree farm.

   We were all up at 3AM, we had breakfast and off to the mountain.  Parked a little after 5am and walked a hour and a half to our spot.  We hunted all day, all three of us and I saw one(1) deer, a not legal spike.  It was a nice day, but come on.....one deer.  We drug our butts back to camp after being stopped by the game warden for a spot check, we passed.  After dinner we were extremely tired I caved first and went to bed around 8:30. Mean while Diane was Small Business shopping with Mel.  

Sunday 29 November 2020 2nd day of buck

   We got up at 4:30 and had eggs and sausages for breakfast and parked at 7am.  Just a little off yesterdays pace.  Logan is not even hunting but he is along to scout for bear which comes back in Monday.  Hunted almost all day and didn't see a deer.  Hardly anyone hunting which means the deer aren't moving around. Back to the cabin better days ahead.  Oh yea, today Diane shopped with Lynne.

Monday 30 November 2020 3rd day buck and bear is back in.

   Lorin was up at 5am just as rain started.  I was up at 6 and Logan at 7am.  The rain was steady and suppose to last all day.   Sooooo we packed and came home.  I  walked in the moho after lunch Diane is wrapping gifts with the whole sofa covered with already wrapped one.  At least one of us was productive this weekend.

   I can't believe it is December already.  But no time to lolly gag there is a lot to due.  Diane made a Rite aid run while I dumped tanks and worked around the camper.  We still don't have anyone here to check the slide out.  One guys is supposed to "come take look" next Tuesday.  Mean time I've called another guy waiting to hear back.  As you guys know we have a tendency to look at auctions.  Today was one of those days.  Diane found three cast iron vehicles (car, John Deer tractor and wagon) she had to have and I found a brand new cross bow.  We spent a few hours researching the thing, called the manufacture and came up with a good price $1100.  All went well until we hit a $1000 when the screen just showed our bid as pending.  Franticly we called the auctioneer he was looking into as the minutes past our bid came up as "not approved"  To make the long story even longer when the auctioneer called back he said it did appear we bid first but not approved first and blah, blah, blah he was really sorry.  We were so upset even Rudy wanted some wine.  Anyway we will survive I'm sure.  Another glass of wine and off to bed without our new cross bow.

   Another crazy day.  Diane is going to Wellsboro today, spending the night so she can go to her dentist appointment tomorrow at 8:30(getting permanent crown).  She will also be shopping her way up and back I'm sure.  Of course we ran out of propane last night(3am) so I was off to get propane this morning, first place was closed and second was busy but I persevered.  She was waiting at the door when I returned.  I walked in she walked out and was off.  I got busy with phone calls, researching parts for the Moho, arranging times to pick up our winnings, plus I had to figure out how to take pictures and email them from my phone and lastly I had to set IP address for the printer(that was tuff).  Now I'm about brain dead when the phone rings and my doctor wants to see me next week for my checkup before refilling my prescriptions.

 Sunday 15th through Wednesday 25th  November 2020

     Not a lot exciting going on.  Diane has been shopping with Lynne, Mel and Lynne again.  We had dinner with the Shirk's on the 15th.  Diane made a big pot of veggie soup for me to take up to camp had to smell it cooking for two days and couldn't eat any. Lorin and I headed to the cabin on the 18th for two days of archery and two days of bear hunting.  We had a really nice time.  It was Lorin, Ben, Logan and myself at the old McCurdy cabin which is now in the third generation ownership.  We had fun but didn't fill any tags.  Diane has been holding down the fort with Rudy by her side cooking, cleaning and shopping.  Tis the season for shopping, gift wrapping and all of the holiday stuff.  We have been trying to find some one to work on the Moho.  The dealers can't get us in until after Christmas or next year.  I called several mobile repair people to no avail, out of business, hurt my back and can't work, to busy can't make it for several weeks and these are just some of the excuses.

   I got back home on Monday the 23rd around lunch and Diane was shopping with Mel.  Rudy was so happy to see me he did laps around the Moho and would run across my lap each time, he was funny.  Diane returned just as Lynn posted that Rick's hip replacement went well and he was recovering.  

   Tuesday we shopped, swapped out stuff at the storage unit and made plans to go up north on Wednesday for hunting.  The more we thought about we decided it is best to keep the camper here in Dillsburg until the slide out motor is fixed.  We were afraid it would crap out and we would be stuck in Westfield for a long time.  But we went to bed planning to leave Wednesday morning.

   25th November Brad's Birthday

Wednesday morning while having coffee we made the choice to keep the camper here, so now it's time to change gears.  Back to the storage unit and undue what we did yesterday a whole bunch of calls to be made.  Had to cancel the reservations up north, check on staying here,  call Ben, Lorin, call Mel to borrow a car, plan meals and generally change all are plans for the next week.  But here we are Thanksgiving tomorrow with Chris and her family, Shane and Morgan and Diane and I.  Lorin and I will leave Friday morning to head to the cabin.  Finally found a mobile repair guy that is healthy and can come over after Thanksgiving. OH YEA!  And he works with our warranty company. Oh double Yea.  Hopefully we will be able to make a plan to head south soon.

    The day started out like any other day of hunting up at 4:30 to my stand by 6:00 and then wait until 9 or 10 to come in.  But today I was bored and texted Diane to tell her that, she said come on in and we will have a cooked breakfast.  Sounded good to me I said and started to pack up my gear.  I wasn't even on the ground when she texted back no breakfast we were going to the laundromat Rudy got sick threw up on the bed soaked down to mattress pad.  So instead of a cooked breakfast we had cereal.  Diane went to wash all the bed clothes Rudy and I rested.  By the time Diane returned it was time for the evening hunt up to my tree at 2:30 watch for deer until 5:15  Diane would pick me up and and have a sippy cup of wine for which made it all worth while.

   No hunting today breakfast on the grill then we headed over to Norman's hill to do some scouting  for rifle season.  A few nice rubs but really not a lot of deer sign.  Into Westfield for mushrooms to go with our steaks.  Back to the camper started a fire and settled in for the night.  The weather continues be very warm highs in the 70's every day.

   The sunny nice weather has come to an end and we are back to normal 45 degrees cloudy with a lite breeze. I keep thinking about why I missed that deer on Tuesday so I picked up the bow to reenact the shot and notice the scope is all fogged up and it appears to be on the inside.  Upon further examination I notice a scuff on the limb of the bow so apparently the bow limb hit the tree with enough force to break the scope, changed the trajectory of the arrow and made it miss.  It was not my fault after all.  I was froze by 8:30 but lasted until 9:30 any way.  Back out for the evening hunt while Diane we to Barbers sporting store and picked up wings from the VFW. Yum.

   Big change today out at 6:00 in at 8 am, no I didn't get a deer I had to meet the septic guy at Ben's cabin at 9am.  It didn't give me much time but I made it and the outhouse is empty.  Stopped a the gun shop for a bow scope (didn't have any) stopped again for gas and finally made it back for lunch.  Out for the evening hunt (nothing) roast beef and turnips for dinner.  And that is it for this hunting trip.

    Heading to Dillsburg today.  Just like all our travel days we started backing right after breakfast and I'll figure out why but we are always much later than we planned.  Today a perfect example it was 10:30 before we were ready or so we thought.  I was bringing in the big slide when it just stopped (OMG) tried several times before it came all the way in. Next Diane ran the check over to the office and noticed the entrance steps kept going in and out.  I was still in the parking lot stopped and they finally stopped or so I thought. I went to the gas station 10 miles away the steps going in and out the whole time.  Filled up with fuel hooked up the truck and pulled out it was 11:45 almost noon before we were rolling.  And the steps worked just fine the rest of the trip.  Made it to Dillsburg in record time parked and hooked up by 4:15

   Today was the much anticipated homemade beef pot pie at the Shirk house.  Diane has been cooking beef bones for 30 hours.  She gather up all the other ingredients and headed to Lynn's about 2:30 to put everything together.  I came back home cleaned up around the camper and recovering from the trip to Virginia. I hit my head hard on the edge of the slide out to the point I almost fell down.  So if I act a little funny you will know why.  I headed over at 5:30, Diane and Lynne declared it done around 6:30.  Oh boy was that good.   We all had seconds.  We talked for a while Rick is counting down the days until he gets a new hip and were on our way home by 8pm.

    Getting prepared for the trip to  Cole's(Tioga county) tomorrow.  Diane went to the grocery store, bank, Karen's and to Lynne's to pick up stuff we forgot last night.  We  broke down and got another storage unit to put stuff in.  So this afternoon we took our first load out of the Moho.  Wow it didn't take much to fill it up.  We thought it would be big enough that we wouldn't have to stack it from floor to ceiling but I was wrong.  We will have to redo it after hunting season is over.

  A lovely day for a drive.  Once again we tried to leave early but it was 11:00 until we left and the first stop was the storage unit (Giant for the Moho), it was 11:30 when we left Giant.  But we were fueled up,  just one stop on the way and we parked in Middlebury Center at 3pm. After hooking up the electric I headed over to Ben's to get my tree stand.  I was back here before dark and Diane had almost everything else ready to go.  We finished cell booster antenna, tv satellite dish, and were ready for burgers on the grill by 6:30 that included time for some wine.

   Up at 4am for hunting.  I rolled out the door by 5:30 and in my stand by 6 o'clock.  Three hours later I came in for breakfast without seeing a deer.  Sausage and eggs for breakfast(Diane cooked inside).  Diane cleaned up and ran down to Peg Omar's for bologna and cheese while Rudy and I napped.  The weather here has been wonderful on the verge of record setting high.  Temp's in the 70's and lows in the 30's and herein lies the problem.  I go out in the morning long johns, heavy coat, hat and gloves and I'm froze by 8am and wet sweated by the time I get to the truck. I headed back out at 2:30 didn't see a thing until 4:30 when two buck walked by.  I was to be back at 5 so we could meet Dave and Julie for diner in Wellsboro.  I came close it was 5:15 a quick shower and we were on our way.  Diner at the Wellsboro House food was good and company was great. Diane had pan seared scallops and I had pan seared shrimp with a vegie medley both were good.  We sat and talked for a while after diner and didn't get back until after 8:30.

   We were full of excitement and rolled out of the campground at 10 am.  Everything was still wet this morning packing up.  I had to wipe down all the hoses, cables etc.  We tried to hurry but it still took forever.  It was a nice sunny day and we went down I95 through Washington.  It wasn't to bad just two or three back ups.  We must of stopped 5 or 6 times wrong exit for fuel, right exit for fuel, lunch, a couple of rest area breaks, and poof we were there(Walmart in South Hill) by 4pm.  The weather forecast changed and now they were calling for rain on Sunday so we unhooked and drove the last 30 miles to see the rig.  The folks were really nice and the coached looked  fairly well.  We knew the sofas had been removed but as we walked  around our feelings started to change.  The carpets really needed a good cleaning but not a big deal.  The rest of the inside looked good until we came to the refrigerator.  They have replaced it with a smaller whirlpool unit and never fixed the cabinet opening. We went for a drive, put the sides out, jacks down, ran the heater etc.  The guy starts to tell how they took care of the tires, batteries, and furnace and other things for the five plus years they had  it.  To me that means it will need tires for sure and probably all six batteries very soon.  We said our good byes and headed back to the Moho.  It was after 7, we haven't eaten anything but cheese and crackers on the way down so we had warmed up sausages and called it a night.

   Woke up around 6:30 cooked some coffee and the rain started.  Rudy got up and I guess he had to go because he went right out in the rain.  We hooked the truck up in the rain. None the less a bowl of cereal and we were on the road at 7:30.  The only good part of overnighting at Walmart we were ready to go early no jacks, only one slide out, and no utilities to unhook.  It rained on and off (mostly on) the whole way home.  We stopped for fuel in the driving rain fueled up and then I had to zip tie the windshield wipers on.  We talked about the coach we looked at and kind of decided if  we bought it we wanted to have is professionally refurbished but we did like the Newmar style.  We arrived back in Dillsburg at 2:30 hooked everything up.  We got busy get prices for what we could(mostly guesses) and came up with want we thought was a good price.  I call Will (the owner) and although he didn't call me obscene names the price we had was way to low for him.  Tired and wore out we had dogs and beans with wine for diner and the excitement is all over.

    Just a note on about this trip.  It was our first night in Walmart,  it was ok for what we needed to do.  I don't think we need to try it again.  Give us water, electric, sewer  and we are happy campers.

   Windy and I mean windy.  Tough night for sleep, the motorhome rocked and rattled all night.  Diane went to the store while I kept thinking about the Moho and should I up my offer 5 grand.  Diane came back with the groceries and I was nauseated from thinking.  I had to finish hooking up water, sewer, and satellite I was just to tired to do it last night.  I worked on setting the the satellite for hours upon hours with no luck.  The thing has been acting up so it maybe time to replace it.
