Storage unit clean up

 Tuesday 16 April 2024

Time to start the dreaded storage unit clean out /resorting. As soon as breakfast was over I headed to the storage unit.  It didn't take too long to fill the truck up with things to sell, things to throw out and a few things to go back in the Moho. Diane rolled her eyes as I started unloading the truck🙄.  She was happy with the items to sell, 2 chairs, fire pit, roll up camping table and some over the fire cooking baskets. I carried the other items into the Moho. She says put them anywhere out of the way, right! And besides all that, she still managed to make keto broccoli salad and chicken for dinner.

Wednesday 17 April 2024

A few more phone calls about the insurance/repair of the Moho.  But most of the day was answering all the question from FB marketplace after Diane posted the items for sale.  We must have fielded 75 inquires over 8-hour period.  We wanted $15 for the chairs and two different people wanted to know if we would deliver to Carlisle and Lancaster😖. You got to be kidding!! Some scammers, they are out of the country but will send their friends over and pay us later. 😡 Every stupid question you could think of.  Finally, about 5pm everything was sold, and Diane posted SOLD on FB.  The calls continued into the evening and a few the next morning. All that for $80.00 Next time we will just donate the stuff.

Thursday 18 April 2024

Not much happening today.  I sorted a large box of paper for shredding. That included remove from folder, getting all the metal out, paper clips, staples and  metal fasteners. Not a difficult task but still took hours and hours. Paper included all my military stuff and occasionally I would find myself reading over what I was doing in 74 and 75  up through 93. I had it all done, cleaned up and put away by the time Diane got back from town.

Friday 19 April 2024

Diane spent the day with Lynne out running errands, but the trip also included a stop at Starbucks and wine tasting at the state store. I headed over to their house around 5pm with Rudy. After pizza and wine, we played a game Mexican train.  Rick won but he also was keeping score.  Just say'n.  We had a great time.  It was after 11pm until we returned to the Moho.  Poor Rudy was worn out from trying to hang with Cody.

Saturday 20 April 2024.

I know you are all tired of the storage unit stuff, but we were back at it this morning.  Diane and I went over right after breakfast.  We pulled a lot out of the unit, sorted and reshuffled boxes, some of the selves were sagging hard.  Loaded the truck up again with throw out, donate and repack stuff.  Done by lunch.  Diane went over to UPS store to have the shredding done but turns out it just sits there for about 2 weeks before they actually shred it.  Back to the Moho and I'd say Diane turned ten boxes/bags of stuff down to three while I went over to visit Bev.  By dinner time we were wore out. Burgers on the grill.

 Sunday 21 April 2024

Took the day off today. I went to the cemetery and a quick stop at the storage unit and made a few phone calls. Rebuilt the entrance steps.  Still a little shaky but better than they were. Mowed the grass
They feel a little
safer!!

again(third time). The site beside us has only mowed once and his site looks like crap.  They have four dogs they tie out with a ten foot leash, never clean up poop so it smells like crap also. Anyway much cooler today only in the 50's. Last week we were looking for the shade and now looking for the sunny spots.
Diane and Lynne spent the day playing bingo in Biglerville.  They returned around 5pm.  Had a lot of fun but no winnings.  Even after a tough day at bingo she made us a meatloaf for dinner, yum.

First week in Dillsburg

 Monday 8 April 2024

This week is very busy, getting everything ready for the flight out to Nebraska for Maddie's wedding. Today just the beginning of the crazies. Started off with breakfast at Brothers Restaurant hopefully energy for the rest of the day.   Most important was pick up, sign and file taxes. All done with a week to spare.  Dropped off my jacket at the dry cleaners, hit the wine store and the grocery store.  Got back to Moho about 3, had left over wings for lunch and more left overs for dinner at 8pm. Somewhere in there we started happy hour🍷

Tuesday 9 April 2024

Today just as busy but never left the Moho. We finished organizing the Moho for a month's stay. We moved and scrubbed the picnic table. I tried to build a safe step outside the Moho just need some more material. It's still pretty shaky, I'll try again tomorrow.  We have been avoiding the bag of mail (2 months' worth) picked up from Lynne's.  Today we had to tackle that job. When it was all over, we had 1 bill to pay. Guess we should be grateful. One of our favorite comfort meals for dinner, sausage and fried potatoes.

It's not pretty,
bet we can get
in and out safely.

Wednesday 10 April 2024

This morning Rudy surprised us by throwing up on the bed.  Seems foil and sticks don't digest so well. So, Diane's schedule was screwed up from the get-go. Quick breakfast and she was off to the laundromat.  She came back I took the car to get the heavy-duty jack pads from the storage unit, picked up prescriptions and back home. She took the car to the Post Office, Karns, dry cleaners and wine store and still made it home for happy hour.

Thursday 11 April 2024

Spent most of the day making calls, sending texts, pictures and emails trying to get the Moho in for the final repair.  No luck yet. Got me all packed up for the flight to Nebraska in the morning. I haven't flown in 20 years. I'm a bit nervous to say the least. The rain, wind and thunderstorms moved in just in time for my flight.

Brad did manage
to mow before
he left.

Friday 12 April 2024

The big day is here. Up at 3am, toast for breakfast and off to the airport at 4am.  I was in the airport by 5am for a 6:15 flight.  I was not disappointed.  The storms🌩 made take off terrible and rest of the flight was just very bumpy.  Landed in Chicago had almost an hour before next flight.  United was nice enough to send me an email telling me to would take 21 minutes to get to my next gate. And apparently that is for a young guy.  I hurried the best I could, stopped at the bathroom and had 10 minutes (to rest) before boarding started. I was a wreck.  Flight to Lincoln was bumpy not near as bad as the first half. Landed at Lincoln, life is good. Lincolns airport has just 5 gates.  Went to the car rental area. One counter same guy does National, Almo and Budget.  Filled out the paperwork and off to find my car it was parked in space one just across from the terminal. 😁 I finally made it to Shari's Airbnb around 3pm.
Meanwhile back at the ranch Diane wanted to nap but no can do. Every time she was close to dozing off, I would call to give her status update. 😉 The plan was for her to go the Celtic festival at Dill's tavern but with wind and rain she gave that one up. The wind was so bad she went out to put our little window awning up.

Saturday 13 April 2024

My day was fairly uneventful.  Shari's crew took off for wedding prep early morning.  Shari made the remaining family breakfast, we talked a bit and headed over around noon. First gay wedding I was ever at.  Not any different than a regular wedding. The ceremony was over in 30 minutes, but pictures took forever.  Pizza arrived around 4pm, I was starved.  Visited with everyone I knew, had some wine and pizza🍕before heading back.
Diane spent most of the day cleaning up the Moho.  She says it is easier to clean when I'm not around. 😏 I don't know why I'm always helpful😁. She did manage to get over to visit with Shane, Morgan and the kids for a while.

Shari with Elias before the wedding. Matt and Shari both walked down the aisle with Maddie, and the rest of the O'Donnell girls (plus 1) were in the wedding party.

Sunday 14 April 2024

Oh crap, another day of flying for me. 😕😐 Visited with the O'Donnell especially little Elias right up until I had to go to the airport.  Said my goodbye's and off I went. Now that I'm a seasoned traveler😂😏things went better.  Nice weather and smooth flight to Chicago.  Again 25-minute hiking to the next gate but I made it. Flight home was good until the landing.  Very strong winds made it quite tense as we landed.  Good to be HOME.  Diane picked me up and headed over to Mike & Karen's to get the truck. It was almost 7pm until we started dinner. Some wine and dinner, I was done.

Elias at the Airbnb

Monday 15 April 2024

Oh, it is good to be back home. My own bed, bathroom and got my truck🛻 back.  No time to rest, more emails to insurance co and repair facility. I hope something happens soon.  I mowed our site, before another thunderstorm moved through while Diane went to the grocery store.  The wind has been terribly strong again today.  It did let up enough to cook on the grill this evening.

Happy Easter Heading back to PA

Sunday 31 March 2024 HAPPY EASTER

The weekend end was beautiful.  Clear sunny days 🌞a bit breezy from time to time but otherwise nice. We were in recovery mode for the most part. Yesterday Diane went into town to the Noble Garden "Saturday farmers market" for fresh veggies.  She drove by just a falling down shed, hasn't been open in years but still shows up on the internet. 😐 We laughed a bit; good we really didn't need anything.
Easter at Freightliner

Lunch time we went to the Bulldog Snak Shak in downtown Boiling Springs (NC). It was the only non-fast-food place we could find, and the food was good. Boiling Springs is a very small town of 5,000 but home to the Webb Gardner College whose mascot happens to be a Bulldog.
Sunday was another beautiful morning clear skies lots of sunshine. We enjoyed the morning but then it was time to head back to Freightliner Service Center. All set up by 2:30 got the chairs and grill out and enjoyed Easter ham for dinner.

Monday 1 April 2024

The Moho went into the shop around 10:30 and we all headed to camping world to shop for new a patio rug, chairs and entry mat. We scored on two out of three, chair and patio rug. On the way back to Freightliner we texted Don and Bonnie, they too were heading back, so we met at Cracker Barrell for lunch. I think we may have overstayed our welcome a bit, but it was good to catch up with old friends. 😊

Back to the service center, paid our bill😓 and said goodbye to Don and Bonnie. Diane went to pick up the last of our supplies for trip back to PA. I packed up the chairs and grill and outside items.

Last view of
the Peach for
this trip.

Tuesday 2 April 2024

We were planning a slow relaxing drive north. Had reservations at Fort Chiswell 180 miles north of here.  I looked at the weather, that whole area was under severe storm warnings with high wind warnings. We talked it over and decided to head east and avoid the storms. By lunch Diane had started to look for a campground, sorry we're full, sorry long term only, full etc. As the hours past we were getting a little more desperate for a spot to park.  I forgot the first week on April is the big migration of snowbirds from Florida back up north and the closer we got to I-95 the less likely we are to find a spot. Finally, around 4pm Diane found a campground. The Cattail Creek Campground in Skippers VA.  She didn't even look at me for conformation just said we'll take it. We followed their instructions. Off the interstate down a two-lane road, then the lines disappeared, then the berm disappeared and the gutters on each side got deep and finally "the sign" narrow road ahead. We made it!  An old small campground.  The host Frank and Sandy meet us as we pulled in. They were very nice, and we decided to stay for two nights and recover a bit. So instead of a leisurely 180-mile day we had a 318mile day.  Wine 🍷and burgers for dinner!

The horse, mule and goats and our site at Cattail Creek CG.
Nothing much, but it was quiet and roomy!

Wednesday 3 April 2024

The storms are coming.  Diane went to the store while I cleaned the bugs and pollen off the windshield.  By the time I finished Diane was pulling back in. We unloaded the car and just got inside when the storm hit.  The rain came down, the wind blew 'hard' and several tree limbs fell around us, fortunately the Moho was not hit. The storm passed and we eventually got back outside to walk around.  The campground is really "kind of nice" off the highway, horse and goats roaming next door and for a change the water quality was excellent.  Back on the highway tomorrow.

Thursday 4 April 2024

On the road by 10:00 heading to Walnut Hills in Staunton VA.  Not a bad drive. About a hour into the trip we stopped for fuel. The first gas station we couldn't get to the diesel pump, so around the building and across the street to Sheetz, I was going the wrong way, U-turn in the parking lot and up to the pump, nothing to it. 😁 Diesel was $3.59. Back on the road an uneventful drive except for the wind, it just won't let up.  Pulled into the CG around 3:00.  We ordered BBQ for pick from Sooner BBQ. Ordered 1/2lb of both brisket and pulled pork with two sides.  It was really good and reasonably priced.  Again, we are staying for two nights it is much more enjoyable.  We watch campers pull in at 7 or 8pm, park and are pulling out at 8am.  Not for us. Life is too short to hurry that much when you are retired.  Wind is still blowing hard even down in the CG.

Friday 5 April 2024

A rest day.  We had a nice breakfast, cleaned up and headed out for a 2 1/2-hour drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  But first was lunch at A Taste of Cuba.  Just a small shop in a strip mall.  We both had a Cuban sandwich and a side.  The sandwiches were delicious and huge. We struggled just to eat half of them. Back in the car a headed down the Parkway. The drive was beautiful with the flowers blooming and trees budding.  The wind continued again today with gusts close to 20mph we even had some snow flurries.  One overlook we could hardly open the car door the next would rip the door handle out of your hand. Anyway, we still had a great time.  Time came to head back; Diane mapped us back to 81 'kind of'.  We turned right and down and around and around we went😕, switch backs and hair pin turns, and on down and around we went😕finally came to the small town of Vesuvius, VA.  Bet none of you know where that one is! 😏
We made it back to the Moho, dropped Diane off and I went to Tractor Supply to pick up some DEF. The gauge hasn't worked since the blowout, so I figured best just keep some in the car.
Back to Moho and start packing for our final leg of the journey to Dillsburg.  The wind is to still be quite gusty tomorrow, so we are going to try route 340 from here all the way up to route 15.

We saw 2 or 3 small campers, and a lot of beautiful views on the
Blue Ridge Parkway.

Saturday 6 April 2024

Up and on the road by 10:00 for the slooow drive up Route 340.  With car already hooked up we were ahead of schedule. It all started out well enough through small towns, lots of traffic lights and then into the countryside.  No lights but the road got narrow and windy.  With the wind gusts at 20-25😳 mph, we were still happy not to be on I81. Lunch at Walmart somewhere around Front Royal and a fuel stop at Thurmont MD, and we pulled into Dillsburg around 4:00.  The drive was probably at least an hour longer but much lower MPH and more relaxing drive.
Parked and organized the Moho.  This time for a month, so we put more thought into how we could make the best of available space.

Sunday 7 April 2024

Diane was up, showered and out the door to play bingo with all the Angeli sisters at the Lisburn fire house.  I work on fixing/leveling our steps up. It took some time, but they are at least solid. A trip to the storage unit back to the Moho with more supplies. Eventually I was satisfied with them.  Change all the water filters, dumped the tanks and hooked up the water softener.
Around 4pm Diane texted she was finished, and we were having dinner with the Shirk's and was to head over with Rudy. Actually, I think Rudy was the important one. Wings from Moe's, a game Mexican train and the night was shot. Packed everything up and back to the Moho. It was 10:30 when we got back, well after dark, just say'n.  Bradley can stay out past dark! 😁😁

Four of us girls made it to Bingo and Karen's husband Mike was there.
