Back in Tioga County!!

We are back, at least for a quick update.

We arrived at Tompkins campground on the 5th of May to start our summer hosting job. And what a difference a year makes.  Last year it rained, seemed like every other day, mud and ruts all over the place.  This year very little rain the grass barely needs mowed.  But we are not complaining this is much better.

We have been busy since the get-go. Diane had an eye doctor and dentist appointment.  I’ve had several doctor, eye doctor and dentist appointments and a couple mri’s.  Everything looks good they say, I just feel old I guess. I did manage to get a few mornings of spring gobbler hunting in, but to no avail.  I saw lots of signs of turkeys, but no turkeys.  The days were warm and by nine/ten o’clock the bugs were getting bad.  It was still good to get out in the mountain. Better luck this fall, I hope.

The neighborhood Fox!!

Of course, the reason the blog hasn’t been update is we have poor to no cell service.  The TV satellite works on dry days with little to no wind and the phone you have to be almost touching the cell booster to get a signal.  Thank goodness for our ear pods that allow us to walk around the inside of the camper and talk. It is frustrating to say the least.  We will be talking to some one, turn your head and you lose the call.  I put the cell tower and satellite right where they were last year and for some reason they don’t work as well.

Some good news we had are first visitors here already.  Lynne and Rick were up and stayed at Ives Run for a week.  We both were scheduled to be at Ives Run but they had some major problems with their camper and had to reschedule.  Diane spent one day with Lynne shopping and hit several flower sales and stopped for a coffee.  Also, we managed to get a nice bike ride in on the rail to trails in Wellsboro. We had a good time, as usual with a trip to the finger lakes for wine tasting, lunch and of course a shopping stop at famous brands store.  We sat by the camp fires each night enjoying the pleasant spring evenings.  Hopefully they will come back a second time before we leave and other friends are scheduled to visit as well. Last Thursday we had dinner with Kate at the VFW for the famous whiskey lullaby wings they are gooey and sticky but oh so good.

Now as everyone knows, things happen to campers, they just break.  Our luck certainly hasn’t changed.  Sitting here minding our own business when Diane notice something on the windshield, it is a crack about 18 inches coming down from the top of the glass.  Called the insurance company it is mostly covered but they are having a hard time finding some one to come out here to the middle of nowhere. Time will tell, they already told us we may have to take to a shop in Ohio.

Another job we did get done was buying a car.  After hours and hours of on-line shopping and on the lot shopping we finally settled on a Chevy Equinox.  A little bigger than the Ford Escape but still small enough to get us round tourist towns and of course it is towable behind the Moho. We found one on line at Lawrence Chevrolet so Thursday the 26 May we headed down to Lynne’s.  On Friday we went to the dealership to test drive one and pick one out of the incoming inventory, nobody has any on the lot.  Just as we decided on one the salesmen says there were two that just arrived.  We went to look at them and of course we liked the more expensive one.  But that job is done only problem we have to take delivery before the end of the month. So back to Lynne’s for dinner from Nick’s.  It was good as always.  Off to bed getting up early to meet Shari and the kids for breakfast.  They all flew in for a wedding, Shari and Matt into Harrisburg, Morgan and Zack into Philly and MaKira into Baltimore.

Breakfast with the
O'Donnell's

Anyway, they all ended up in a hotel in Lancaster so we meet them around 9 for breakfast.  We left there at 11am drove straight to the dealership to pick up the car.  About an hour of paper work and I was done.  I headed home Diane had to stay for training on all the new technology.  What a whirl wind trip that was.

Now we are back into our routine camp hosting/camp working and enjoying our days off.  Diane has been getting into kayaking every other day or so, I brought the boat over hoping to get some fishing in here real soon.

A funny picture while kayaking!!

And finally great family news Ashley, Shawna’s daughter has been accepted in the Robert Larner Medical school in Burlington, Vermont.  She will have 4 years maybe 5 to get her medical degree.

And honorable mention must go to poor, poor Rudy.  There are so many Chippies around it is all he can do to keep them out of the wood pile and out from under the Moho.  He gives chase in one direction and there is another one before he gets back.
