Leaving Gettysburg Farms, off to Walmar Manor

 Tuesday 20 April 2021

Maddie on the
Rifle Range

Not a bad day today, cool but sunny.  We met Bev for lunch at Brother's Restaurant good food nothing special.  Nothing to do and we were still late getting to lunch.  After lunch I went back to visit with Beverly some more while Diane ran over to Lynne's to pick up my phone I forgot last night. We didn't leave Bev's until after 3pm.  Back to the Moho still full from lunch it was a glass of wine with leftovers. This evening we finally found some pictures of  our "grand" PFC O'Donnell  attending Basic Training at Fort Jackson.  Can't see her face but in good army fashion her name is on everything.

Wednesday 21 April 2021

A terribly windy day today I was half afraid to take Rudy out for fear he would blow away.   We divided and conquer today.  Diane went to the storage unit to repack and sort while I headed to Gettysburg and Chambersburg to pick up items from two different auctions I know, I know that is a lot of on-line auction stuff this month and Diane has already deleted my auction password.😕  It took me a

Rudy found a place to
hide from the wind!
lot longer than I thought and I never made it to the storage unit to help her. She stopped picked up some pre-made  burgers.  We meet back at the Moho, walked Rudy and had burgers for diner.

Thursday 22 April 2021

A cold frosty morning to start the day.  Everything seems to be in bloom, sure do hope the frost didn't ruin the fruit crop.  We both left for the storage unit with me stopping at the insurance office and Diane went straight to the storage unit.  I meet her just after lunch we shared left over salad from Bone Fish so we didn't have to go out to eat(hard to believe I know).  We sorted and repacked a lot of stuff  some we didn't even know we had.  You know not much of the "stuff" we have is worth anything we save it for sentimental reasons and to make sure the kids have something to sort through when we are gone.😂😂

Friday 23 April 2021

Moving day today just 15 miles from Gettysburg Farms in East Berlin to Walmar Manor in Dillsburg.  We hadn't packed a thing because we have until noon to be out and the short drive.  We pulled out at 10:30 almost the same as when we are in a hurry.  It did take a bit longer since we had Mel's car to come back and get.  We were parked with everything hooked at by 3:30.  Walmar Manor has gone down hill again with permanent people and getting trashy.  But it will work for a week.  We splurged a bit tonight with steak and shrimp both cooked on the grill. Oh YUM.

More time in Dillsburg!!

Wednesday 14 April thru Sunday the 18th April 2021

Time has flown by this week.  We are retired, with no house to look after and we still don't seem get much accomplished.   We had lunch with Mel and Pere at 11:30 over on the pike.  Diane and I and Pere were there at 11:30.  We talked and talked and talked until Mel rolled in at a little after 12 noon.  Work she says!  We ordered, talked some (with Mel), the food was really good.  They are  heading to Florida and wanted some insight on camping sites.  We gave them are top four or five stops only to find out they are driving it in two days.  It takes us two days to get through Virginia.  We came home, walked Rudy and just had salad for diner.

Thursday 15 April 2021

Up this morning and out the door right after breakfast.  First stop the bank, then Mels to get her car, next the storage unit, then Insurance lady.   Back to the storage unit where we worked still moving from two units into one.  We quit around 4 back home walked Rudy  I cooked chicken on the grill with wine. It was good.

Friday 16 April 2021

We slowed down a bit today after breakfast we went to an auction preview in New Oxford stopping for lunch for course.  We ate the the Cross Roads Diner it was OK.  Over to the preview we spent about two hours looking at stuff for tomorrows auction.  We drove right home didn't stop at any of 10+ antique store we passed.  Diane made a whole rack of ribs with a new dry rub recipe she found. They were good.  The wind finally died down so we had a fire and enjoyed a glass(or two) of wine.

Saturday 17 April 2021

Once again temp down around 42 when I got up.  Diane headed to the  auction by 8am (yes that's right 8am)  I stayed with Rudy until 10:30 then headed over to meet her.  By the time I arrived she had already bought a few items we absolutely needed for in the camper and one item that was just "so cute" she had to get it for her sister.  We watched and waited and waited for the coins to come up for sale and when they did I sat on the edge of my seat paying close attention as not to miss anything.  It didn't take very long to realize this wasn't going to be a fruitful day for me.  The coins sold way over what I thought they should and certainly out of my price range.  We decided to call it a day and head back to the Moho with Diane stopping for take out wings on the ride back. We did notice lots and lots of antique stores on the way home.   It finally warmed up a little we sat by the fire with a glass of wine discussing the day's events and how would we ever get to all the antique stores with just a few days left.

Sunday 18 April 2021

Here we are down to the last few days in East Berlin and so much to do yet.  Sunny this morning so we had breakfast on the grill and talked to the neighbors while we cooked.  Diane picked up sister Karen and went over to visit her Aunt Lida who turned 96 today.  She was gone most of the day and was exhausted by time she returned. We got a glass of wine sat by the fire discussing the good and bad of aging and enjoying life while you can.  Burgers for diner and called it a day.

Monday 19 April 2021

Back to the rat race(retirement rat race).  I was out the door by 7:30 headed to the Ford dealer with the truck.  I arrived at 8:10 for my 8:30 appointment checked in with the service rep. He says it shouldn't be to long until they can get the truck in to look at it.  Apparently appointment times are just a guideline for them.  You can already see where this is going.  Three plus hours and two hundred dollars later the service rep calls with the news "they don't know" but they would like to keep the truck  order three or four parts which should fix it, maybe, perhaps. I ask to talk to the mechanic who was really nice but almost word for word told me what I told the service rep at 8 this morning. No thanks just give me the truck back.  So much for thinking a Ford dealer could fix a Ford truck.  Diane and I meet for brunch in Camp Hill and tried to salvage the afternoon.  I went home to save Rudy and she was doing all of todays running grocery store, tax guy, post office, wine store, and a stop for firewood.  All that before we went to the Shirk's for dinner with them, and Shane and Morgan. We all had a great visit and the food was from Bone Fish.  Yum!

Back Home

 Thursday 8 April 2021

Packed up and on the road to Dillsburg by 10:30 (after going to the dump station and getting propane). The highway(I-81) was busy with mostly truck traffic, even finding a rest area with room was tough.  We stopped for fuel and just our luck the RV lanes are two deep with cargo trailers.  Just as we pull in one leaves but we still are barely off the road.  We wait and wait and wait and finally we get fuel and decided to go to the first rest area for lunch, nope rest area parked full.  On to next rest area we pull in take the next available spot and as I pull in I realize I can't get around the truck next to me to get out.  No worry that truck should leave before we finish lunch.  Nope,  we have lunch, go to bathroom, walk Rudy and again still the truck doesn't leave and no one is in the truck.  Crap, We unhook the truck to back up and just as we finish unhooking our truck the truck driver gets in and drives off.  Well we hooked back up in record time and buzzed right out of there.  We made it almost to Newville and traffic was backed up so we opted for route 11 through Carlisle.  I don't know if we save time but it was a much nicer ride.  We arrived at the McCurdy tree farm around 4pm got situated just before Mel and her grandkids showed up.  A nice visit, burgers and asparagus for dinner.

Friday 9 April 2021

Up and moving by 9 am we wanted to get to Gettysburg Farms campground by noon for opening day and it is first come first served camp sites.  We were there by 11:40 and were put in line with the 20
people who got there ahead of us.  We finally get to go in and get a nice site, it's one of two with stone for a front yard, but with rain forecasted as far out as we can see, we are happy and will be here for two weeks.  All settled in by 2pm.  Diane went to grocery store in East Berlin(we needed wine) then we had Pizza for dinner.  Sat by the fire burning the last of our firewood that we left with in January!

Saturday 10 April 2021

Today is the start of what to do first syndrome.  But today it was easy to decide we had to move out of our little storage unit into a bigger one and the office closed at noon.  So we spent most of the day doing that and by 4pm we were wore out and ready for showers and

Rudy is not liking
being back, he
wants to go south!!
some wine.  Back to the Moho Diane(social adviser and scheduler) made a bunch of phone calls trying to get everyone on our calendar.  Wore out we just had sausages on the grill and sat by the fire enjoying the last warm evening for awhile.

Sunday 11 April 2021

You know how some days things just work out for you, well today wasn't it for me.  We left here heading up to work on the storage unit.  Turns out Diane makes a phone call trying to get our mail from Lynne and spends the whole day with her shopping and sampling wine. I work in the storage unit all afternoon.  I went home to get cleaned up, picked up Rudy and headed to the Shirk's for dinner (Shrimp Fajitas).  We had a really nice time catching up on what happened while we were gone. Rudy and Cody had good time running around the yard I think they missed their play time too.  So actually it did turn out to be good day for everyone.

Monday 12 April 2021

What in the world happened to springtime?  It is rainy, cold and down right winter like.  We are digging out jeans, sweatshirts and warm clothes.  The rain finally let up enough for Rudy to go out.  We spent all morning making phone calls scheduling stuff and sorting through mail.  It is always "like Christmas" when we get back home and pick up the mail.  We forgot some of the stuff we ordered and you open it up and wow I forget we got this.  Doesn't take much to excite us!  Next it was off to Carlisle to Lowes then over to get our first COVID shot.  What an experience that was a lot of people, no where to park but actually we were in and out in 20-30 minutes.  Next we headed down to T J Rockwell's to meet Shane and Morgan for diner.  Food seemed to be a bit disappointing but we had a great time chatting.  Back to the Moho.  And just for the record that is two nights in a row we were out until 9pm.

Almost back in PA!!

 Saturday 3 April 2021

Cold and frosty this morning 33 degrees and a hard frost.  Oh why did we come north so soon?  Diane made breakfast using 50 percent egg whites trying to get my cholesterol down a bit. Next we headed
No grass at
the site, gravel

over to a RV dealer to look at a Moho a 2005 Winnebago Vectra.  We drove in walked around it, the paint looked pretty good for a 15 year old coach.  Inside was amazingly decent shape.  A smell of something in the bedroom but not to bad. We did find a rotted corner in the bed room and some mold in the other corner. After about on hour of going over the Moho and discussing things as we went, we were headed to the truck when the salesman caught up to us and a hour later after more looking at and talking with him, we took a break for lunch. While we were eating we decided it was a bit more work than we wanted(even though he offered us what we were asking for in the deal).  So we left and went to another dealer and looked a some new Tiffins',  nice but all were in the high $300's.  Back to the Moho and called it a day.  Brains are cooked.  Left overs for diner.

Rudy's soaking up the
 sunshine while he has some!

Sunday 4 April 2021     HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE    🐇🐇

We spent the day wondering if we did the right thing with the Moho.  To work off some anxiety we went to a park just a few miles away for a little bike riding.  It is just a gorgeous day high 78 clear blue skies and lots of sunshine.  Back to the Moho Diane got busy making Easter dinner ham with most of the fixing.  Now clean up was another story.  The ham was huge our kitchen is small.  We washed and dried dishes as the meal progressed.  Lastly was storing all the left overs three large containers and the freezer is already full.  The meal was great.  We sat outside enjoying every moment of sunshine we could.  Then start packing for the trip north.

Monday 5 April 2021

A nice day for traveling cool in the morning but sunny  high in the 70's.  We left around 10:45 and arrived in Mt Airy at 3:15.  An uneventful trip all interstate and easy driving except for a 27 mile stretch under construction.  178 mile day.   We were trying for a pull through but with passport America no deal,  cheap price = cheap spot.  No big deal just had to unhook.  Burgers for dinner, a walk for Rudy and wine for Diane and I.

Tuesday 6 April 2021

Another travel day.  I know what you are thinking traveling two days in a row it doesn't happen to often.  We left Mt Airy at 10:30 another nice traveling day.  All day on the interstate wears me out I81 is always full of truck traffic.  We stopped often to stretch and slow down a bit.  A183 mile trip.  We arrived at Walnut Hills in VA at 3:30  We enjoyed chicken on the grill and made a few phone calls.

Nice to have a grass site,
parked in VA for 2 nights.

A slow trek north!

 Sunday 28 March 2021

A nice day here in Florida, a little cool but still in the low 70's.  That really nice oak tree we parked under turned out not to be such a prize.  Tree dirt and descending caterpillars are terrible. We gave up trying to sit outside and just stayed in the camper.   Diane  worked on finding us campgrounds for the
Cute restaurant.
trip home. She has been having trouble finding us camp sites everything along the coast is booked due to spring break so we are now heading through the middle of Georgia and SC, we had to skip one town we wanted to see.  She has made 17 phone calls and we are only booked to Easter.   We did get to have diner with Gabe at the Yearling Restaurant it was built in the 1930's after a famous writer (Marjorie Rawlings) moved there. The place was really nice, restored to the 1930 era.   Diane and Gabe had the ground steak special and it was very good and I had shrimp with greens also very good.  When Gabe walked in he was limping hard and had a big bruise on his face.  Seems his flip flops made him fall while he was at a frat party in St. Augustine, well that's what he told us😉😉.  Back to the Moho and started packing up.

Monday 29 March 2021

Another warm day, sun was shinning bright by the time we were packing up.  I walked out side and the Moho was covered with caterpillars to the point we couldn't bring the slides in without smushing them.  I did spray a bunch of the other day and they die quickly but then turn into a glob of black goo.  Just gross!!  Once Diane had the inside packed up I got the leaf blower, climbed the ladder a blew off the slide out,  top of the topper, under the topper, then around and under the slide out, then Diane would put the slide in.  Move the ladder for each slide out.  When I turned on the blower the bugs, tree dirt and sand flew some sand and dirt coming back over me and like that is not enough the ants bit me as I was moving the ladder.  I was sweating with a light dusting of sand on me and bites from the ants, I just love camping!  We finally get on the road heading to Tifton Ga around noon.  Stopped for a quick lunch at a rest area we weren't back on the road for 5 minutes and the service engine oil light keeps coming.  We parked at 4pm and made arrangements to go to Gaffney Freightliner service center but when I called again to verify they said we didn't need one right now so cancelled and back on schedule to head to PA.  We stayed at the I75 campground in Ga.  Don't ever go there, small, very tight turns and rough roads.

Tuesday 30 March 2021

Up and ready to go by 10am.  We had a pull through and didn't hook up sewer so we were on the road by 10 am heading to the Pointes West Army RV resort.  Another great southern day for traveling with temp's neat 80.  We stopped at the new Buc-ee's they are just so cool and diesel was cheap. Shortly after

Nice Sites!
that Diane had us traveling up two land roads through little towns on a few "short cuts" roads but we made it and the scenery was much nicer on the side roads.   We pulled in to the gate house around 3:30 another 200 plus mile day for us. What a nice place that is right on Clark Hill lake. We got all set up and decided to have steaks tonight as the weather is turn cold soon.

Wednesday 31 March 2021

We had breakfast on the grill probably the last for awhile with the weather changing.  We headed into the small town of McCormick, SC another quaint old town and sadly most of the big businesses have
It's sad to see the
small towns die!!

moved out and nothing left to support it. We went to two restaurants both closed and finally having lunch at a tiny little place The McCormick Chicken drive thru, no longer a drive thru and seating for about six skinny people but the chicken was great.  We did stop at the USCOE volunteer camp and talked to a guy about the lake and volunteering there.  We told him it didn't look like the visitors center was open,  he said that was because they had a fire and have gotten no funding to fix it.  With all of the government money flying around now days you would think they could fix one visitor center building.   Shortly after getting back the rain started turned into thunderstorms and lasted most of the night.  Diane made a new Mexican dish for diner it was ok not real spicy.  After diner we noticed water was leaking in along the bedroom slide.  We put down towels trying to minimize the damage until the rain stops.

Thursday 1 April 2021

Oh my how the weather has changed.  Got up this morning temp's in 40's oh burrrrr, burrrr cold! And windy, I almost forgot that part.  Breakfast inside.  But we didn't hibernate and drove up to Washington
Beautiful old buildings
in Washington, GA.

Ga a very historic town.  But first was lunch surprise surprise.  The sun was out and we thought we had enough jackets with us but we were wrong.  We stopped at the first open restaurant we found the C'est La Vie  lunch was good and we would go back.  After lunch we were going to walk around the town square reading up on Civil War history.  We read two plaques about Jefferson Davis's and last days of the war.  By then we realized it was way to cold and windy to walk around so we hit  two antique shops(right by were we parked) before heading home.  We would really like to come back here so much history.  We started packing for a short drive to Greenville SC tomorrow.

Friday 2 April 2021

We took our time packing up only a little over a 100 miles to go today and it was cold this morning so
Rudy trying to get warm,
he misses Florida.

I waited until the sun was up and shining on our site.  Hit the road about 11:30.  Another day of mostly two lane roads narrow and without out rest areas.  About a hour into the trip I had to go. We drove by a shopping plaza I realized we would fit so slam on the brakes and turn.  Diane didn't even get what the heck you doing out and we were parked.  A nice lunch break and we are back on the road.  We pulled in at 3:30 4 hour to go 125 mile but it was all back roads.  This place the 290 RV Park is another to never visit.  Narrow uneven sites.  We didn't get  level the back end would have been off the ground quite a bit.
