Maybe our last week in Florida.....maybe!!

Monday April 24 2020

We survived the tornado watch with just a few thunderstorms always good news.  Saturday was hot and muggy but we went to the park anyway.   Wow, the place was crawling with people.  After driving around a bit we found a spot and did our routine.  We dried off some jumped into truck and fired up the AC.  We got back to the camper got showers and since is was so hot we had a Bloody Mary.  We sat outside and read our books.  Diane is on her third and with any luck I will finish mine tomorrow.
Sunday was another hot and humid day.  We hung out and listened to a church service from across the road.  Since the churches are closed they do a drive in service and broadcast on a radio cannel.
Hanging out down by the River,
it fun to watch the people!!
This was the third service we tuned into and it was good.  We decided on staying here and going for a walk since the park was so crowded yesterday.  Once again we came back and right into the shower.  After lunch we were sitting on the deck, in the sun, and it was Sunday so Diane was thinking white wine.  Yikes... we did not have any, another Bloody Mary day.   I did get my book finished this afternoon.  That was about it for Sunday.  We try to pack stuff but we always seem to get side tracked.  Still have five days to go.
Monday was a beautiful day.  Woke up to 61 degrees no wonder the air conditioning didn't run all night.  We took advantage of the weather and cooked breakfast on the grill.  We went to park stopping to refill water jugs along the way.  It was so refreshing to exercise in 70 degrees.  Back to the Moho, Diane cleaned up and went to the drug store to pick up her prescriptions while Rudy and I rested. I think it will be burgers on the grill tonight if the temps don't drop to fast down in the 60's again tonight.  Oh Yea.  The neighbor was just over to tell the restaurant here is featuring rum buckets tonight as a special.  That is right your favorite rum drink 30 some ounces in a plastic bucket to go and remember it is carry out only.  Go figure!

Still in Florida!!

Friday 24 April 2020

Another week has passed and we are surviving quite well.  The stores have had everything we needed but not all the time.  Not much else has changed the weather has been really nice all week.  We had one thunder stormy day and today we have a tornado watch for a few hour this afternoon.  We have stuck with no more than 30 minutes of news a day and that is enough.  We stay home most of the time except Diane does the grocery shopping and we try to get to the park several times a week.  We know a lot of people not keeping the social distancing however for us it is just not worth it.  Diane keeps telling me I'm in the old geezer category of higher risk.

This little guy was too cute.  He is 13 years old and just loves going for a ride with mom and dad!!

We have once again postponed our departure from Florida for another week.  We keep trying to leave but the weather up in PA just won't warm up.  I hate to go from shorts and flipflops to long johns and gloves to say nothing of having to dig out jeans.  So the new plan is to leave May 1st or 2nd to head north.  The last we heard VA still has all campgrounds closed for overnight stopping so that last day will be a long hard drive of 300 or more miles. Thousand Trails also has not come up with a opening date yet.  I guess we head north and hope something opens by the time we get there.
With Georgia opening up some things today maybe Florida will open up some restaurants soon.  We were hunger for Chinese on Monday.  Diane called 5 Chinese places near us and none were open.  That seems odd since most of them are carry out anyway(unless they know something we don't). We ended up getting from the Swamp House here at the campground only to find out they drastically cut their menu.  We had several choices picked but out they had none.  But lucky for us the grilled  shrimp and fish tacos were still available. We're getting tired of same thing day after day.
We did a virtual happy hour with a bunch of family and that was great to see and hear so any of them.  We should all keep that option available as this social distancing continues for who knows how long.  With the rest of the snowbird people leaving the happy hour here is now to just a very few and two more are leaving tomorrow.  Now they are only going to South Carolina so they don't have to suffer temperature shock.

We have our own mini Jurassic Park here.  Of all the places
we have visited in Florida we have never seen so many gecos all different
color, shapes and sizes.

Big news for the week we bought a cell phone booster and hooked it up this morning.  Not the big improvement we were hoping for but it is still better than what we had.  So give us a call so we can check it out.  We have 90 days to check it out.
You all be safe.  I will try to post a little more often as we start to pack and clean up for the trip  north.

Another week in "Paradise"!!

Friday April 17 2020

Thing are pretty much the same.  Not that we are bored but,.....the other day when the drier stopped
Diane found our site
for next year, on the River!!
we both ran  to fold the laundry.  Happy hour has been reduced to just standing and talking for ten minutes or so.  Diane went to the grocery store again and we were pleasantly surprise to once again find everything we needed.
Rudy and I have been having a contest.  He is to take Benadryl twice a day, first day was easy(put it in food), second day(cheese was required), third day(had to hollow out ham pieces) and now I have to put it in his mouth and hold it shut until he swallows it.  Diane watches and was laughing so hard I had to take a break and start over again.  I always win but he seems to enjoy the challenge.
We have gotten tired of homecooked meals(never thought I would say that) so this week we order a small pizza and small Stromboli. You have to tell them color of vehicle and they bring it out, not allowed in the store at all.  Well, when she got home we had a
Interesting way to
decorate a tree!!
small pizza and a large Stromboli.  Needless to say that was dinner for two evenings.
My sister Beverly made us several masks and they arrived on Tuesday and that get our inventory of virus defense equipment up to snuff.  Plus Mel is shipping us hand sanitizer.
Big news.  I had to get gas today first time in 3 weeks and it was $1.79 a gallon. Woo Who.   We looked forward to stopping while we were out and it's just sad what qualifies for interesting nowadays.
We were all excited, we ordered a cell phone booster and it was to ship on Tuesday. After we ordered we called to check and they emailed back it wouldn't ship until next week.  To close to chance it being here by time we leave.  Diane called back turns out they too are working from home so it takes days to process the orders. Now are deciding whether to cancel or ship to Dillsburg.
We are now scheduled to leave Florida next Friday, the 25th.  We have one reservation made for the 25th at The New Green Acres campground in SC.  After that we are not sure and we have a week scheduled in Dillsburg but the lady made it clear we can not stay long term. So once again we will have to wait and see was is next(that is why we called it an adventure).  All of our plans for the summer have now been officially cancelled.

Happy Easter

Monday 13 April 2020

We are having a very warm 90 degree day.  We went for our exercise, returned and had lunch now we are hiding inside with the A/C cranked.  Our gremlin got us again this morning.  We were sitting here drinking coffee and minding our own business when the generator started up.  I got up checked everything all looked good turned the generator off and all was back to normal.  A week or so back Diane opened the microwave door and the light began blinking and continued each time you opened the door for two or three days.
This guy found Easter Dinner
a Peanut Butter Cracker!!
Yesterday was Easter and we made a ham, asparagus, pickled eggs and coleslaw it was great.  We had to eat alone but had a lot of text's and calls from family, and that made it better.  We are "kind of" getting settled into this social distancing thing.  We found if we limit the news to less about half hour a day it cuts down on anxiety.   Can't wait until this is over and we can get together for a holiday and do hugs and handshakes.  Friday everyone received a letter requesting we not congregate at all.  It had been no more than 6 or 7 people, 6 feet apart but now nothing at all.  Diane occasionally reminds me to stay 6 feet away.😅
If nothing else changes we are going to stay here until the 25th.  It looks like PA is still stuck in the winter mode so we will hang here for awhile longer.  Still haven't heard anything about campgrounds yet and the one we going to stop at on the way up was hit by tornado yesterday.
  You all take care

The Eco tours are closed.  They have a sign out front that has an owl with a face mask and the lower one is 2 ducks with a 6 foot mark between them and they also have face masks on.

Made us chuckle!!

Have a Great Week!!

Good Friday update

Friday April 10 2020

Well here we are another week has passed and fun is being had by one and all.  We are still at our routine.  Exercise at the park 5 days a week and here at the campground the other two.  The weather
YEAH!!
is back up 80 plus almost every day but only one day of rain.  We saw two Eagles at park on Tuesday and four turkeys on Friday. We went to the grocery and drug store this week and found everything we needed.  Diane hit the trifecta on Wednesday paper towel napkins and even toilet paper. And we gave half the toilet paper to our neighbor. Oh, we also went to the liquor store(still open in Florida) don't mean to rub it in.
We did not order out all week but I do think it will be shrimp tonight for Good Friday meal. We have just been trying to stay busy.  Washed the truck (twice actually),  but up our "Bless This House" sign, fixed the clock that kept wobbling back and forth and Diane cleans something every day.
Wednesday afternoon Rudy got attached by the neighbors dog.  It wasn't bad until the lady and I exchanged a few words.  Their dog got loose/out dragging its leash ran right at Rudy and bit his tail.  I picked up Rudy their dog is standing there with a mouth full of hair and the lady says he doesn't bite.  She says I pulled Rudy's hair out and put it on the ground.  That was it I went off.  When it was all over people were out on the road watching cars had to stop because we were in the middle of road.  So she looks at me and says "can't we just be friends" and I said "no" the end.
We went back and straight to happy hour.
People are leaving steadily as the month goes by.  Two out of our happy hour crowd are leaving next week and we can decide what to do.  Should we leave or should we stay.  We still don't have any reservations in PA and half the places don't know when or if they will start taking reservations.  I think we will check at the place in Tioga County (no water) but fairly cheap.  That might be good anyway,  it is just a parking lot in the middle of nowhere.  That may work out since we haven't started our taxes.  Just hope the weather clears up a little bit before we get there.  I don't know if we can stand temp's down in the sixties.
We will check in next week.  You all stay safe and healthy.

Yes that is an Eagle, there were a total of 4 turkeys that crossed the road
and at the bottom is what the wipers on the Moho look like each day
(yes we clean it off)

Another day in Paradise, and another and another!!

Thursday  April 2, 2020

We are getting settled in to the routine of sheltering in place.  There has been a bit of bright spot in all of this.  We have talked to our relatives and friends a lot more. It seems the crisis and lots of spare time draws us closer to family. We certainly enjoy hearing from all of you.  To do our part we quit
Poor Rudy, he
hates water!!
using paper plates and cups even though I have to help with dishes now.  And I started carrying a cloth hankie when we are traveling to save on tissues. We ordered and installed a new shower head, cleaned window screens, washed windows and also Rudy got his much needed spring scrub'n and he was not happy.  Both of us are reading books and just enjoying being in the same room at same place at same time day in and day out and still stay married.😀
We have decided to say here in DeBary Fl. for two more weeks.  Our reservation in Ga. were cancelled last week and yesterday Walnut Hills in Va. cancelled our reservation there and according to the lady there you would have to be a resident of Va. to camp in Va.  So we will stay here until April 15th or so and then just wing it for stops on the way up.  We are not sure where we will stay when we get back to Pa.  Seems all state and federal campgrounds are closed.  We are hoping Ives Run opens up in early May and things get back to normal or close to normal anyway.
Good news.  We went to the grocery store and drug store this week.  To our surprise many things are back in stock like meat(almost full), dairy had a full selection(eggs were low) and vegetables were like nothing happened.  Now of course no toilet paper or paper towels but we did get tissues and hand soap. But for the life of me I do not know why people buy all the toilet paper.  We know people here who if they find it they buy it even though they already have 30 rolls.  And some people go to the store every day to see what they have in stock, apparently they don't understand stay at home.
Fun news. We have had some fun anyway.  First we have gone to join the happy hour group next door and it is kind of cute, five to seven of us old people sitting 6 feet apart in a circle. The fun is endless we can't hear that far apart and some can't see that well to know who is talking but it is fun.  You just gotta love a group old farts gathered together.
Funny news.   On our way home from bike riding this guy pulls up along side us, beeps the horn, waves, yells at us so I put the window down and he tells us my bike helmet fell off the truck a few blocks back.  I do a U-turn in the middle of the block and speed back to the scene of the crime and there is my helmet in the middle of the travel lanes.  We pulled over and watched as each car barely missed it and it rolled a little and then one hit it, then another and another, we bow our heads and drove off.  Nothing left but the chin strap.
The weather finally broke a bit the temps have dropped into the 80's and high 70's for a few days and as always in Florida with low's in the 60's people are bundled up with jackets, hoodies, and some with gloves.  It has made exercising a little more bearable.  We hope to wash the Moho and truck this week.  The pollen and tree dirt is absolutely terrible but it has been to hot to work in the sun.
We continue to support the local restaurant with take out a few times a week. The food is good we just wish we were here when it was open.  There is a nice  outside area upstairs right outside the restaurant and a 'Tiki' bar on the lower area with bar type food so you can drink and/or eat by the river.  We could have ate and drank and just walked home, oh well maybe next time.

The picture on the left is part of the 'East to West Coast Rails to Trail' we go to everyday.  There is the Lake and Boat launch that Diane goes by every day.  Below is an old school house along the trail.
