Busy week in Dillsburg

 September  23 thru 29 2019

A nice Site at
Gettysburg Farm!!

It was a very busy week.  We had diner with Mel, Perry, Monique, Peyton, Cianne, Shane and Morgan on Monday and found out Monique has re-enlisted in the Army and is moving to Tennessee.

We made several trips to the storage unit to put stuff in and get stuff out.  I was trying to file for VA benefits and they needed my original DD214 from 1976 some 40+ years ago.....we Found it,  unbelievable!
The McCurdy Crew!

We went to camping world in Hanover and then again to return the stuff we bought and one more time to buy bed sheets. Thursday we took the DD214 to the VA center, had lunch with Mel then helped her and Shane pack up Monique's stuff to move it to Tennessee, her and the kids left with a load Thursday morning.

We have just been so busy.  A couple trips to  the Warrington butcher shop.  Had fresh steaks on the grill and I had sweet bologna snacks. Worked on the camper(small things) replaced windshield wiper. unclogged the shower drain and started washing the Moho.

We had diner with the McCurdy siblings on Saturday afternoon all were present and it was good to see everyone. A good time was had by all.
Sunday was the Angeli sister's get together and everyone was there, including Lynne who just returned from vacation at 3pm and still made it a little after 4:00.  We had a great time and it was good to see everyone.  It did take almost as long to take pictures as it did to eat but we finally got a decent one.
The Angeli Girls.
It has been wonderful seeing everyone and going to familiar places to shop and eat.  I'll try to keep these last few days up to date.

Back in Tioga County, PA

Thursday 19 September 2019

Well here we are ten days behind on the blog so I'll have to keep it short.  Thursday morning we were
Our Site
setting at the table I looked out just in time to see an eagle flying along the creek.  I had a DR's appoint at 1:00 came home then over to visit with Kate and Tony for awhile, we had chili and grilled cheese (great comfort food) for dinner, then back to the Moho.

Friday 20 September 2019

There is a bob cat in here!
Just after breakfast we looked out the window to see at bob cat walking along the creek.  Then over to Mansfield to get the truck inspected, stopped at Tractor Supply and Peebles (going out of business sale) back home then over to have diner with Jen and Greg at Ives Run, it was good to see them and we had a nice visit.

Poor Blue and the
cone of shame!

Saturday 21 September 2019

We  had breakfast then looked out the window and there was a ground hog walking along the creek.  We spent the day with Kate and Tony going the Knoxville church bazar and the Lawrenceville firemen's bazar. Both were fun we had fire pit chicken and had a great time.  We stopped at the VFW for a drink on our way home, then back to the Moho.

Sunday 22 September 2019

The fog is neat!!
We were packing up for the move to Dillsburg when I looked out the window and nothing was walking along the creek.  No animals, time to leave.  We got packed up and headed out around 10:30am.  We stopped at Williamsport for lunch and in Duncannon for a little break and arrived at Gettysburg Farm in East Berlin at 4pm.  We set up, got the place organized and had burgers for dinner.

Looking for campgrounds

Sunday September 15 2019

On the road at 9:30 heading to Mercer KOA just inside the PA border.  We needed fuel but were half afraid of getting stuck again.  Diane found a Flying J on the PA border that had RV lanes so we are safe today.  A couple of rest area stops and a lunch break and we pulled into the KOA at 3:30.  Nice park, the roads are a little tight but we got in the our site without any problems.  We didn't unhook for just the two days plus the truck needs inspection.  A couple of walks around the park to check it out and then up to the office for propane.  We (mostly Diane) have been working diligently on finding a campground for the next couple months.  I can't believe how full everything is this late in the season. Chicken on the grill and the day is over.

Somebody had time
to kill and made this.

Monday September 16 2019

Pancakes and sausage for breakfast then a little work.  Diane did laundry, bedding went to laundromat and two loads in the camper.  Seems she is always doing laundry or cleaning.  While she did that I worked on unclogging the shower drain.  After working up a sweat with the plunger and making a gross mess it finally drained out slowly.  With a flashlight I could see a glob of something.  With screwdrivers and needle nosed pliers in hand I worked and finally pulled out a glob of silicon(I think) sealant out of the drain.  By now it was after lunch and Diane was done with laundry.  We ate some leftovers for a quick lunch.  By the time we folded laundry, put away my tools and showered it was happy hour.  I don't know how we ever managed to work full time jobs and get everything done.  We are busy most days just looking after the Moho.  A couple more walks and it was dinner time.  Dogs and beans, a good comfort food.  Still not much luck on campgrounds.  Tomorrow is a winery stop for 1 night then 3 nights at Middleburg Center(maybe) then down to Gettysburg Farms in East Berlin for a week.  After that we have no clue where we are going.

Tuesday September 17 2019

We were on the road by 10 am heading to the Starr Winery in Curwensville Pa.  It is only a 120 mile trip so we took are time.  We stopped for a break, then lunch, then another break, then at Walmart to unhook the truck.  We drove the ten miles to check out the road to the winery.  It was narrow with some low clearance bridges but we figured we could make.  Back to Walmart I drove the Moho Diane followed in the truck.  We finally arrive and park at 2:30.  The place is absolutely gorgeous.  See the pic's.  We settled in and headed over for a wine tasting.  Ken Starr (the grandfather and owner) joined us on the deck for a glass of wine and treated us to a snack tray(cheese, bologna, cracker and olives).  By the time they closed our free campsite cost us $85.  Worth every penny.  Burgers for dinner another glass of wine and we were done for the night.
Having wine with the
owner, Ken!!

Wednesday September 18 2019

I was up early, showered, had breakfast, and walked Rudy by 7:30. I had an appointment at the local Ford dealer to get the truck inspected.  I arrived at 8:30 dropped off the keys only to find out they couldn't do emission's testing. So back to the winery we finished packing and rolled out about 9:30 for our 173 mile trip.  A mostly uneventful trip we stopped for a break, fuel and lastly lunch at Fry's Turkey Ranch at the top of Steam Valley Mountain.  It has been a long time since we ate there and food was great.  We stopped a Ives Run to top off the fresh water tank then down to Middlebury Center to our spot.  Diane made her jambalaya rice dish. YUM!  We sat out side watched the sunset and headed in.  No TV and poor cell reception we had to talk to each other. Wasn't all that bad actually, made for a nice evening.
Our site for the next 4 nights
not to bad, just us parked here!!

Homeward Bound

Wednesday September 11, 2019

Brad made breakfast then we headed out to see what we could find.  We are in need of a new camp chair, so off to the local Dunham's store.  We found 2 bag chairs that we liked and picked them up to
use as spare chairs and to be able to carry them easily to campground functions.  After that we headed up to Fayette, IN in search of the local Camping World, but first lunch.  Brad was hungry for Chinese, so I did some research and found a local restaurant with decent reviews.  It really was nothing more that a few tables in the front of what appeared to be a mostly take out place.  Now between the appearance and the poor service, we were actually surprised by how good the food was.  After lunch we drove around checking out Fayette as best we could, it appears that most of Indiana's road are under repair.  We finally headed to Camping World, which we find, but it isn't a store it's the distribution warehouse.  Well we had a good chuckle then headed the 28 miles back to Crawfordsville.  We had another quick stop at Dunham's for a regular camp chair, a craft store and then off to home.  A light dinner, a couple of walks for Rudy then off to bed.

Thursday September 12, 2019

Our last night in Indiana
We were going to leave today but decided to stay one more day.  We worked around the camper, I went to the grocery store via Dunham's and the Big R (big farm and sporting goods store).  Diane did laundry and cleaned the camper.  When I returned we went back to town hit a few antique stores, went back to the Big R and ended up buying a few more things there and of course Walgreens for more drugs.  I had picked up two steaks which didn't look big in store but they filled the grill.  We ate one and have one for left overs.  It is still very hot so we have had to eat inside all week.

Friday September 13, 2019

We were on the road at 10:30 heading to a city park in Lima IN.  We travel the back roads and had a nice ride stopping for a nice lunch along the way.  Then we were down to the last ten mile Diane is
Great site at a
City Park!!
giving me directions and I'm buzzing along until...… I turned left and Diane says that big sign with blinking lights said LOW clearance.  Well, crap.  Every drive way says no turn arounds.  But I pick one (Dept. of Corrections) probably not my brightest move.  We could not make the turn.  Diane got out to see if she could steer the truck while I backed up.  Just then a guy comes out of the building, he comes over and says didn't you see the sign(he means no turn around) and I yes I did see it (I meant low clearance).  Turns out he was nice and opened the second gate and gave us directions around the bridge. We still had to back up a few feet and turns out that is very hard but we made it without unhooking.  Adrenaline pumping we rolled into the campground at 4:30.  Backed into first site getting set up trying to plug in the electric but kept tripping the breaker.  Temperature is 93 degrees.  We pack up and moved to another site plugged in electric first and all goes well.   I was wet with sweat by the time we got the A/C's fired up.  Grilled sausages for dinner and the Friday the 13th was finally over.

Saturday September 14 2019.

Breakfast on the grill with left over mushrooms in the eggs.  I like the mushrooms in the eggs Diane

says they are OK.  We paid for another day, the weather broke and it is just delightful here after some strong thunderstorms last night.  This park is really nice with some pull throughs and great hiking trails.   We went for a nice walk, then headed into town to a butcher shop, lunch and a few groceries.  Back home another nice walk and just sitting out enjoying the day. We are having problems trying to find a camp ground in central PA.  Harrisburg East is full, Dillsburg is trashy and full, Carlisle is full.  We have a call into the one we stayed at in Middlebury Center hopefully they are open.  Left over steak on salad for dinner and getting ready for our return to PA tomorrow.

East to Indiana

Saturday 7 September 2019

Nice sun shiny morning.  Ear hurts but we had breakfast on the grill away.  Trying to use up ham, potatoes, and mushrooms left over from camping with Buddy and Teresa.  Next was drugs and a nap
for me.  Diane took advantage of the situation by going to have her nails done.  After my rest I was out cleaning up the grill when a motor home pulls in beside us.  I couldn't believe it, it was Buddy and Teresa they just happened to pick this campground and the staff parked them right next to us.  What are the chances.  Diane got back from town and we started happy hour early with Buddy and Teresa to catch up on the last few days.  They went to see the "House on the Rock"  in WI.  We never heard of it but they said it was great.  We all headed in around six for dinner and rest they are leaving tomorrow.

Sunday 8 September 2019

Woke up to that all too familiar sound of rain and cool temps as well.  It wasn't long after I walked Rudy the Burkette's were ready to pull out.  We did the hugs and hand shakes again and they were off.  We decided to stay another day to see how my ear does.  It is a little better but I'm out of antibiotics and I really don't want to have to go another walk in clinic.  Diane went to town (groceries) and I rested.  I did manage to change the water filter.  It stayed cloudy and quite cool temps stayed in the 60's all day with a few sprinkles.  Diane made baked fish and green beans for dinner a nice break and it warmed the moho.  More drugs and a walk and we called it a day.

Monday 9 September 2019

We had our normal breakfast on the grill and headed to town to a three story antique store and
1918 Report Card
of Ronald Reagan
museum.  As soon as we walked in we remembered it from our first visit to Galesburg.  We walked thru it anyway.  The museum part was nice, Ronald Reagan was born here, the antique department was way over priced.  Next we went for lunch at a little bistro the 'Landmark CafĂ© and Creperie'.  Diane had the sausage, beef ,onion and blue cheese quiche. I had a crepe of chicken, mushrooms, swiss cheese, scallions and black olives topped with sour cream.  Both were great.  Next came follow visit to clinic to check my ears.  Short version went in at 2pm came out 4:30pm.  Ears look better they say.  Back to camper sausages for dinner and then we started to pack for road trip tomorrow.

Tuesday 10 September 2019

Up and on the road by 10.  We have a 206 mile trip to Crawfordsville IN.  We had the usual construction delays.  But did manage to get Diane driving today. Oh Yea!  We stopped again for lunch
Best site at Sugar Creek CG!!
and again for fuel.  Now we were about to have fun.  We filled up with fuel but could not make the turn to get out of the Pilot RV lane.  Tight up against the curb and wheels cut hard we had no choice but to disconnect.  But with the truck at a hard angle the tow bar would not release.  So I got a screwdriver and pounded out the pins.  Good idea right.  Not necessarily.  When the pin came out the screwdriver was stuck.  A Pilot truck driver took his screwdriver and tried to pound out mine.  Good idea right.  Not necessarily.  Handle on my screwdriver came off .  Time for more tools.  He found a metal punch and tapped out my screwdriver and it worked except his punch was now stuck. He pulled while we rocked the truck back  and forth and finally we were free.  And did I mention it was 91 degrees.  We pulled over gathered up tools, dried sweat and decided to drive the last 45 miles separate.  We arrived at the campground got situated and started happy hour immediately.   Burgers for dinner, a nice walk for Rudy and the day was done.

Heading east

Tuesday 3 September 2019

The Burkette's  were ready to pull out buy 8:30 we did the hugs and hand shakes and they were off.
Nice sized site!!
Diane and I finished packing and we were on the road a little after 10 for a 239 mile drive.  It was an uneventful ride except for some construction zones.  A rest stop and a fuel stop and we arrived around 3:30pm at the South Sioux City NE Scenic Park.  Which is just west of East Sioux City IA and south of North Sioux City SD.  I bet the mail people love sorting mail.  The campground is very nice, large sites with some shade.  It is right on the Missouri River and has nice trails to walk and ride.  The best part we have hardly any bugs.

Wednesday 4 September 2019

We had breakfast outside on the grill then off to grocery store.  We drove through town trying to find
Fall decorations!!
the route for the next morning because the on ramp to I29 is closed.  We found our path and as we headed back to camp Diane kept trying to get to a wine store. First I was on the wrong road, then in the wrong lane, then going the wrong direction but finally we made it.  Kind of funny actually just glad we had all day.  Back to camp several nice walks around the park.  It was chicken on the grill and a camp fire, nice evening, relaxing.

Thursday 5 September 2019

We were on the road by 10 am heading to Waterloo IA some 220 miles east.  We finally are heading east and back to PA.  Another uneventful drive we took Route 20 a nice mostly 4 lane highway that runs across IA.  Not much to look at just miles and miles of corn and soybean fields and some pretty
2001 Newmar NewAire.
Unique style.
sunflower fields.  We took a short lunch break and pressed on.  My ear doesn't seem to be getting any better, I guess we will have to find another clinic.  We arrived at the Evansdale Deerwood City Park at 3:30.  No one was around Diane called the number on the sign and found where to go.  The park is old the sites are not very level and not marked and people park where ever they want.  Our first site was to uneven the Moho would not level, the second wasn't much better but we made do.  One night and price was right $15.  We settled in had sausages, a couple walks and then we came across this neat old Newmar camper and then called it a night.

Friday 5 September 2019

Got up this morning ear is just plain sore.  We hit the road at 9:30 heading to Galesburg IL 190 miles away.  I was hoping to arrive soon enough to get to a clinic before they close.  We stopped for a quick
Love the Sinclair stations!
lunch and kept rolling.  Diane was having a great day also (ha ha), so she started calling to find a clinic, check hours, and schedule an appointment.  We arrived just after 1:30 and as soon as the Moho was leveled I was ready to go.  I was in and out of the clinic in less than an hour and we were off to get drugs. YEA!  I'll keep this short.  We went to CVS they had prescriptions but don't take insurance, called Walgreens they would transfer should take less than two hours, waited two hours went in they had not done anything, went to grocery store they tried to get script but Walgreens had just called, back to Walgreens wait in line again they can't find it, wanted to know why I thought it was ready, I got a text.  It was 6pm before we made it back.  We had a grocery store lunch at 3:30, so some snacks and drugs for dinner.

Happy Labor Day!!

Friday 30 August 2019

Once again mosquitoes are the topic of conversation as temps warm up a little each day.  I'm still wearing jeans and long sleeved shirts. Buddy and Teresa made us a really good breakfast wrap. It's
Big Stone Lake
been a long time since we had a cooked breakfast.   My ear started to bother me again so Diane took me to the local doctor's office(Dr. Bob) and yes my ear is infected, the usual drops and pills.  Diane got her hair cut while we were in town.  We walked around a bit, found one antique store, the drug store and a nice butcher shop on our way out of town.  We got steaks for Labor day grilling.  This campground is on the Big Stone Lake and hosts a "Walleye Masters Tournament" each year.  As soon as we got home I started on my meds and took a short nap.  We had Teresa's famous Crawfish Etouffe for dinner. Oh Yum!

Saturday 31 August 2019

Woke up this morning and my ear actually felt worse but it has only been one day.  Temps are back into the mid 70's and we had sun all day.  Ate a quick breakfast so I could take pills. I had to throw a few pain killers into the mix of meds.  We sat around(I napped) all morning.  Finally we headed out for dinner to celebrate Buddy and Teresa's 40th Anniversary.  It was Mexican and the food was great.  Back home over to their camper chatted for awhile before calling it a night.

Sunday 1 September 2019

Last night was terrible for me.  Up every two/three  hours taking pain pills and walking the floor.
Diane made me an egg sandwich so I could take my meds.  My ear was swollen and red.   After a
Getting out the
Mosquito Room
little research on Dr. google we decided I had a reaction to the ear drops.  So I quit using the ear drops. I laid around again most of the day.  Diane went to town for groceries for our ham dinner tonight.  About 2pm Buddy and Teresa came over we played a game called Sequence really had a good time. We set up the new "mosquito proof "screen room.  It worked well until it started to get dark then we headed into the camper.  Another game or two and we called it night.

Monday 2 September 2019 (Happy Labor Day)

Well, I made it all night without waking up for pain pills.  Ear is still very sore but swelling has gone down some.  When I walked Rudy this morning I only got bit twice, I guess the mosquitoes don't like

medicated blood.  Diane made another good breakfast (ham, egg and cheese omelet). We went with Buddy and Teresa to DQ for a lite lunch then back and played a card game (Sequence) until dinner time.  We all had a wonderful steak and baked potato for Labor Day dinner.  Buddy marinated them in his special recipe sauce, They were very good.  A few more games our camping weekend is over, oh so sad.  We said goodnight but tomorrow will be the goodbyes.
